Why aren't photos from my HTC M8 visible in my computer?

Photos from my HTC M8 not visible in computer

So I wanted to save all the photos from my phone (M8) in my computer. When I connected the phone to my computer, in DCIM/100Media there is absolutely nothing at all. I am pretty sure the photos are stored in the internal memory of the phone, and it takes up a huge chunk of memory. I know that I can actually upload those photos from my phone to cloud storage system like Dropbox, etc. But I would really like to know what is the problem. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! When you connect the phone to the computer, make sure the phone's screen is unlocked. Then swipe down the notification panel, tap the USB icon, and make sure it's set to MTP.

If a microSD card is inserted, check the /DCIM/100Media/ directory there as well.

Did you figure this out because I am having the same problem. Spent hours on it and no luck.
