Android 8.x - How to add phone shortcut for each number?

I've never found a way to do this with any version of Android, and I've been away for a couple of years. So, I'm wondering if it has been addressed as of yet...

Launch the Phone app and the left-most tab is for your Favorites. With a contact, when multiple phone numbers are available (cell and work, for example), there is an option to set one of them as "Default." If this is set, then tapping that person's "card" from the Favorites tab will always dial that number. If the default is NOT set, then you get a pop-up of available numbers with the ability to both choose a specific number to dial and the option to always use that number in the future (setting the Default).

Is there a way to have a SINGLE record for a specific contact, with multiple numbers available to reach that contact, and then set up multiple links in the Favorites tab to dial a different number per link?

I want a shortcut to call a person at home, another to call the same person at work, and a third to call them on their cell phone. This has been available in iOS for as long as I can remember, but I've never seen this in Android. Has it been made available as an option? Is there a chance that it will be coming in a future release?

I don't want any add-on app to do this nor do I want to create shortcuts on my Home screen - I want to do what the Favorites tab should be able to do: Create a favorite for any person/number combo that I want WITHOUT having to have multiple contact records for that person in my phone.

I have a Pixel 2 XL with Oreo 8.1 on it.

Not that I know of - either one is the default, none is the default or you have to have multiple records - like John-Work, John-Cell, etc.

OR you can use the Direct Call widget to make icons set up for different numbers for different people, put them all into a folder (or one folder for each person), then just tap the folder, tap the number and the phone will dial - no need to open Phone at all.

But how many different phone apps can you have on an iPhone. There are a few dozen in Android. Each one has good points and bad ones.

Anything's possible, but I doubt it. (Aside from the legal fight if Google does it - which is why Android can't do anything like iMessage.)

The only way to do that now - and probably into the near future - is to use an iPhone.
