Re: Just switched from my S4 to the G3....I'm in hell
How do you like the rest of the S5 phone? Would you recommend one over the other?
I've had a LOT of phones trying to find THE phone for me in the last year. When I got bored with iPhones I tried the Moto X, went to Nexus 5, the M8, the S5 and now the G3. While I was using iPhones I had the S3 and S4 for brief times and even used a Note 3 that is my son's for a few weeks before he took it over. I can say without question the G3 is by far my favorite. From what I've read you have experienced some problems. My experience has been the exact opposite. The G3 I have has been totally flawless and without issue.
To answer your question, my thoughts on the S5 are it's a good phone. It's much like the other Samsung phones I've used. The software UI is slightly better but still a heavily modified and a feature filled version of android. LG does that as well to some extent and the UI experience reminds me of Samsungs but it just works better for me at least. The S5 has many features that I just turn off, I use all of the features on the G3. The camera of the S5 can take really good pictures but not low light. The S5 camera software is filled with features but I never found a use for them. When I need to take a picture with my phone, it's a quick shot, so it's point and shoot. The G3 excels with this, much faster to focus and capture a good shot without fuss. The battery of both phones lasts really well for me but I give the nod to the G3. The S5, like all Samsungs that I've used seemed inconsistent in that regard. I had to constantly monitor battery stats to watch for errant apps or processes that popped up and would hit battery life, I've not had that experience with the G3. The screens compare well in sunlight which is a big factor for me, both are easy to see outdoors for me. Speakers of both do not even begin to compare to the M8 but the G3 is better than the S5 probably due to the water resistant qualities of the S5. Both can use an sd card but my experience with Samsungs is that they can be finicky with external cards, so if you use one back up often.
The G3 is my choice, I can't choose what's best for you. I prefer the features of the G3 and use all of them, that was not true for me with the S5. I prefer the UI on the G3 over the S5 and it seems faster and more responsive for me. I prefer the core apps of the G3 over those of the S5, such as the messaging, email, launcher, dialer, calendar, gallery, camera software, tv remote and the list goes on. Battery life has been outstanding. The cellular, gps and wifi radios have all worked well and maintain connections better for me. Bluetooth works better for me and I rely on this daily while commuting, a big plus for me. Everything considered, the G3 is the best phone that I've had to date. Again that's been my experience and my opinion. Sorry for the long post.
