Why the sudden recall?

I'm eligible to upgrade my Sprint phone and did extensive research this morning. I currently use a Galaxy S4 but have decided the G4 is my upgrade path due to combination of higher res, swappable battery, and weight. Looked online and local store inventory appeared stocked to the gills. Decided to call first and one after another store told me no stock. Finally the guy who I talked to at the third store told me LG suddenly recalled all G4s and they had to ship them back. Dang! No update today. Why the recall?

I just read a thread over at xda in the "Sprint LG G4 -> Sprint G4 General" forum entitled "LG and sprint admit hardware issue" that explains the out of stock situation. It's a hardware issue apparently specific to Sprint models and related to screen and freezing issues.

My daughter works at Best Buy Mobile. She said they have been told they will receive a list of serial numbers to pull to return to LG. They have been told which ones yet.

I have a T-Mobile version, and every once in a while my screen freezes. I just turn screen off then on again using the power button and I'm back in business. Doesn't freeze often, just once in a while.

Finally got my G4. Sprint store guy said it was new post-recall stock. Made me a little paranoid that when checking out the system told the salesman that the 2yr contract option wasn't available - only lease. Manager overrode the block but I hope it's not flakey stock that they figure is good enough for the lease plan because you can always trade it in. But I bought it so hopefully not a lemon. So far so good. Any simple way to check build date to make sure it's not the bad stuff?

Just went to the sprint store & the lady working said the same thing, lg recalled all sprint G4 models but didn't know why.. Would be nice if they would replace my G4 with something else, this is the worst phone I've used.

Isn't the build/manufactured date on the sticker on the box or in the battery compartment?

How is this even acceptable? Didn't know why? The people working in Sprint stores are told nothing, just ship em back? You shouldn't have a problem getting it replaced then.

If they did that then they would get a flood of returned phones and they certainly can't have that.

Not really kidding.

Did what? Let people know that there's a problem? At least inform your employees what is going on.

Still unacceptable, to me. Just seems a tad on the underhanded side of things is all. My phone seems to be fine so I'm not affected by this.

I work for LG, I am a product Specialist for LG MOBILE. The reason all Sprint G4's are recalled was because some devices had a hardware issue only on Sprint, where the screen would split and look all mad up. To ensure customer satisfaction, LG decided to recall all Sprint G4's. Not all Sprint G4's are affected, but just to be sure. Note the stores are receiving new inventory they will have a round white or yellow sticker on the side, indicating that this inventory is new and safe to sell. I hope that clarifies the question.

Sprint is denying this and won't look into it. Told me to contact LG

My wife and I bought our G4s 2 1/2 weeks ago, just before this recall. Is there any way to find out if our phones are part of the problem group?

Mine has the round white sticker on the side of box.

For those who bought prior to recall, I've heard manuf sep2015 or after is good and you can check the box for that. The LG rep may be able to confirm that.

Mine was made in July and my wife's in August. Is there any way to find out by serial number if ours are part of the problem batches? We are just past the return window at Best Buy where we got them.
