I've not had the proximity issue on either Photon - I assume that's really a hardware problem ... I've had both incoming and outgoing calls have audio failures I doubt you need to pull the battery out - just power down / power up - takes 2-3 mins

I got the phone July 31 and have had this issue multiple times. I assume it's short on memory and not cleaning itself up well enough to run phone app ... the first time I got online with Sprint and they said they did something to reconnect the phone, had me reboot - it worked upon reboot...
