I'm quite sure that you always get an audible notification for every inbound message when exchanging a sequence of messages with somebody, regardless of the open/closed status of the application.

I've decided to leave things as they are and to be sure to turn off the messaging app after use.

Yes - It's the stock application. I'm be worried about wiping DATA .... The warning states that "All files, Settings, Accounts, Databases etc will be permanently deleted"

Thanks B.Diddy - I looked at all system apps and I could not find any with blocked notifications. I'm going to hold off with "Reset All App Preferences" for the moment. I'll continue hunting and hoping for a solution.

Try changing one of your contact's number to international format (+00 xxx) and test it out.

I registered as you suggested B Biddy Unfortunately clearing the sim manager cache and restarting did not help. I suppose it's just another one of those minor problems that persist when one changes SIMs (Like my SIMs original number still showing in SIM Card Manager after porting MY number.)
