News Google Pixel phones' seamless updates are finally shedding their snail-like pace

That's the beauty of the A/B partition strategy, though: you keep using your device while it updates, then reboot when it's done. Your actual downtime is a minute or less. Making it faster is good and all, but the whole point is that the speed doesn't matter: even if the install takes over an...

Excellent case for the 4a 5G phone

Noticably thicker, but not hugely so. Pretty happy with it so far, though I wonder how well it will age: I can imagine the soft plastic over the power and volume buttons loosening up over time.

Excellent case for the 4a 5G phone

I've had Spigen cases on my last three phones. Nice products for a fair price (on Amazon, anyway; they're always more expensive on Spigen's own website for some reason). Used Rugged Armor on the Nexus 6P and Pixel 2, moved to Tough Armor on the Pixel 4a 5g.

    Pre-ordered a 4a 5G

I upgraded from the Pixel 2. It's weird getting used to having a bigger phone again, but so far so good. I was torn between the 4a 5G and the 5, but ultimately none of the extras of the 5 really spoke to me enough to justify the extra money.

    OEM Unlock in developer settings

Well, at least I'm not alone I guess. Ah, well. Like I said I'm not planning to unlock the bootloader anyway so I'll just sit back and see how this one plays out, and get a replacement someday if I have to. Thanks for the help everyone!

    OEM Unlock in developer settings

re: Is there a way to tell if I was sent the wrong model by mistake? No Verizon SIM came with it, so no red flags there. Maybe something in the documentation on/in the box, or in fastboot or the version numbers?

    OEM Unlock in developer settings

re: No, and in fastboot the bootloader status shows locked.

    OEM Unlock in developer settings

I bought my Pixel 2 from the Google Store and selected the Unlocked version, but the OEM unlock setting is grayed out and displays the help text "connect to the internet or contact your carrier". I don't really want to unlock my bootloader, so it's hardly a crisis, but still, I paid for the...

How do I set a custom ringtone on the Pixel 2?

Update- I restarted the phone for a third time 24 hours later and they appeared in the list, so I'm still not really sure what exactly did it. I changed one of the file names just to see what would happen and it's still in the list under the old name, so maybe there's some strange delayed...

How do I set a custom ringtone on the Pixel 2?

I didn't use Zedge; they're files I created ages ago to use as ringtones that I downloaded to the phone manually from Drive.

How do I set a custom ringtone on the Pixel 2?

I downloaded a couple of mp3 files that I've used successfully as ringtones on the past two phones I've owned (Nexus 6P and Nexus 4) and put them in the phone's Ringtones folder using the included file browser (in the Downloads app), but they don't show up as ringtone options in sound settings...

Screen issues are seriously over hyped.

Samsung's panels are better. It's pretty much a technical fact. Does that make the LG panel bad? That's a matter of opinion. Burn-in is certainly the biggest concern of what's been raised from my standpoint- all the other stuff you can check out in the store or during the return period and...

    Screen polarization

I don't know for sure, but my assumption is that it's diagonal- that's how every other phone I've used has been.

    P2XL screens already fixed?

It's worth remembering that there are three things going on here. One is that the screen has a blue tint at an angle and crushes shadow details at low brightness, which is inherent to the current design; either you're cool with it or you're not but it's unlikely to change. Two is all the stuff...
