Attaching to computer?

This may be a really dumb question, but I'm getting nowhere searching online...How do we get our Moto E connected to a computer so we can download videos/files, etc onto our computer and put music files on our phone? I have a Macbook. I went to the Motorola site and can't find useful articles about how to connect the phone with a computer, but there is a page where you can download a driver for the Motorola Device Manager. I downloaded it, but it doesn't do anything...there's no app to open. It just says "MDM Installer" and when I click it, it just wants to re-download onto my hard drive. Ummm, weird... So how does the thing work, if at all? Thanks for any help!

OK, sheepish face on, I think I figured it out...I use the Android File Transfer app on my computer and connect the phone and it seems to allow me to do as I desire.

Motorola device manager works well too.
