I can't be heard on my Moto E

I just got my Moto E about a week ago...out of nowhere I called my mother and she said she couldn't hear anything but static.. It's that way with everyone I call! I've reset it and changed the settings on the sound profile.. i was going to return it but a " friend" bought it for me and we aren't getting along now.. target won't take it back without the receipt or the debit card it was paid for with.. Both in his possession.... uuggghhhh!!What next????? Please help!
