Not on your phone, but having Miracast or other video push tech onto another device, it dose make sense. So having it in reserve is key.

absolutely not. its a complete waste of battery usage. how much time do u really have to sit there and watch movies on ur phone? if u do have time, are u gonna die if its not watched on 1080p? a stupid clip thats less than a minute on youtube is not even worth it bc by the time you go home, youre gonna watch that clip 10 more times on ur computer as ur friends have posted it all over fb. bc like omg the icons look so much prettier now by 10 pixels. if i want to watch 1080p video, ill go on my ps3 soon to be replaced by ps4. 1080p is just a gimmick on a phone.

About 30 seconds after leaving the store, what you have is generally good enough. I spent 2 1/2 years on my Atrix 4g and not once did I ever have a complaint about the visual quality and I think it was probably in the 960 x 500 neighborhood.

Not needed but I do occasionally stream something from my phone to a 1080p TV so it is nice. That said if dropping back to a 720p screen meant an hour more screen on time, which I doubt it does, I would gladly give it up.

My previous phone was 800x480 in a 3.7 inch screen (252 ppi). That phone sucked, but not because of the screen. Now I have 316 ppi in a screen that's a full inch larger. It looks nice. I can't imagine needing more resolution at this size. I'm sure if I held the phone as close as I can focus side by side with an HTC One I could tell a difference but who holds their phone like that?

And I don't need to push video from my phone. I have a Chromecast.

Is it nice to have? Sure. It looks great and there is no chance of you ever seeing a pixel.

As long as a screen is above 300 ppi, I won't complain, but more is always better as long as performance does not suffer. I am much more interested in color reproduction and such on screens these days now that resolution has finally gotten respectable.
