Car Audio Playback: Moto app or moto assist or something else

thing is my version of the moto app doesnt include "assist" and t he play store claims that moto assist isnt compatible with my xt 1095 running M. So in the meantime im using google play music just tplay music but i want to use the moto or moto assist apps so that music playback is automatic and starts where it last left off. TIA
