Visual VM network error trying to connect.

I have a Droid Turbo through Verizon and love the new visual voicemail, EXCEPT when it gives me an error stating it can't connect to a network when I am in a bad service area. (where I live). It gives me this notification error every thirty seconds or so. Mobile data is on however I am connected to my wifi when home. this thing is sooo annoying! I want to fix this because I really love the feature. I have Android version 4.4.4. which you probably already know and System version 21.44.12.

From Verizon - Visual Voice Mail will not work with WiFi turned on. It must connect/register with the towers only.

I have turned off WiFi, wait a while for the app to register, then turned WiFi back on.
