Default Music player with CIFS manager?

I have a linksys e3000 router with attached USB storage. Using CIFS manager I was able to mount my music collection share which is about 45,000 files or so. Is there any way to get the Default Music Player to index this while I am at home over WIFI without losing the settings when I am away? I have tried some of the media rescanning apps but none seem to work -maybe too many files? Anyone do anything like this succesfully? My goal is just to be able to stream my music collection while at home over the phone. Mort player works because you can choose the main directory explicitly but I don't like the folder centric interface.

I'm trying to do the exact same thing, have you had any luck? I've heard eventually poweramp may work with this but it doesn't now. I'm using cifs manger and testing apps now, but most crap out on my size collection (15k songs).
