Unlocking the bootloader backing up apps, etc?

Perhaps I missed the answer to this, Ive been doing a TON of reading but I'm a little confused.

Everything says to save my apps I need to do a backup. I downloaded Titanium Backup but it needs root access. I can't get root access without unlocking the bootloader, but before unlocking the bootloader I'm supposed to backup, lol. I feel like I'm running around in circles, how do I backup before unlocking the bootloader, or do I just need to redownload all my apps?

Nothing to see here, More searching and reading told me to use MyBackup first to back everything up. Thanks.
