Galaxy Note 10.1 (Gt-N8013) "S pen has been removed"

I got a galaxy note 10.1 (gt-n8013) that has the "S pen has been removed" message on the notification bar. Whether the s pen is out or place inside the dock, that message still appears. The S pen works fine with the tablet. I decided to perform a factory reset and after completion that message won't appear. After about couple minutes the message will appear again even if the S pen is inside the dock still. Could this be a hardware issue? Thanks
