GMail App - Duplicate Notifications

I've been having an issue with the notifications from my GMail app. Every time I recieve an e-mail, I get the standard "envelope" icon and notification, but then it's immediately replaced by a second identical notification with a "star" icon. I'm assuming that it has something to do with Priority Inbox, but I can't find a settings configuration that gets rid of the star without getting rid of the notifications entirely.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thanks in advance for your help.

There's a setting that says "Notify for every message". Could unchecking that stop the duplicate notification? That is, if you have it checked currently.

"Notify for every message" is unchecked. I also have sync turned off on my Priority Inbox, and if I uncheck "Label Notifications" for either of my accounts, it unchecks the top-level "Notifications" box as well. Uninstalling and re-installing the app didn't fix the problem, either.
