Galaxy Note 5 not recognizing other devices (Bluetooth)

I have just purchased a Note 5 and am pleased. However, I cannot seem to get the device to recognize any of my Bluetooth toys; a Flip speaker and a wireless earpiece. It simply searches and then I get a message that it could not find any devices. Both these devices are recognized by my Note 2 readily. My modem is functional and the phone has recognized it and is picking up the Internet. All other features of the Note 5 seem OK. Since two Bluetooth devices cannot be “found” by the Note 5, I am assuming I have a setting that prevents it from linking, or there is a defect in the phone of some kind. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! Just to be sure -- did you also press the Connect button on those Bluetooth devices, if called for during the pairing process? Most Bluetooth devices require you to press a button to make it discoverable. It's easy to forget this if you haven't had to pair it with a phone in a while, which is why I ask.
