I just tested this out at my local Best Buy. My Note 8 S Pen not only fits in the note 9 it also works with it and was interacting with it. See below. Now personally if I wanted to get extra pins I would get the ones set for the note 9 but this is a good thing to know.

But does it fit inside the slot and lock?

I also read somewhere that Samsung would let you purchase the other color pens as well which would be good

    Good question.

Verizon has the two different color pens for sale at $49.99 each.

I tend to write pretty small, so I have a preference for a finer line.

Yes - it fits in the hole and locks in place. When I press it to unlock it and pull it out, it generates the typical S-Pen menu options.

If I use my S-Pen from my Note 8 and use it on the screen will it still write yellow? Mind you I have the Black Note 8. And I'm assuming that the Bluetooth does not work with old pens on the N9?

I just chose the shade and the line thickness, and the pen type, so that it was easily readible posting on here.

I was surprised as well. I'm glad Ihad the display model to test it on. I wouldn't have tested it with a new NOte 9 that I'd purchased lol.

Personally, I would just use Note 9 pens on the Note 9, but I'm just very cautious typically with my devices.

The pen technology is the same so there isn't any reason the inking function wouldn't work. Its possible the low power Bluetooth functionality could work on the Note 8, but you would have no way of charging it. Obviously, using the Note 8 pen would lose the LP Bluetooth functionality.

why would it not just 'work' since a pen that you would buy would work just fine. Note 8 and Note 9 are virtually the same

They're available for $32.99 on mobilefun. Less than the older S Pen replacements from Samsung or a carrier.

Mobilefun seems to be offering all four colors. I just can't decide which color would look best with blue. Blue woulda been my 1st choice...

I plan on trading in my Note8 for a $500 discount on the 9. If I held on to my Note8 S-pen when sending it off for the trade in do you think I would have any problems with Samsung as long as the phone is in good working condition?

Probably not worth the risk when it comes to trading in to Samsung.

Except the bluetooth part of the note 9 spen. The clicker on the note 8 is just a fidget spinner.

Gets me in as much trouble with the family as constantly clicking a real pen. But I think it's great for those of us who *might* be raging AD/HD

The Bluetooth functionality is powered by a super capacitor which is charged using induction. The Note 8 will not have the induction coils to charge the cap. It may be possible to pair the poem with the Note 8, but if you can't charge it, you won't be able to use it anyways.
