any difference in locked and unlocked?

I have never had an unlocked phone, always had a verizon locked, so was wondering if there was really any difference between locked and unlocked?

No Verizon bloat. (But also no Verizon Visual Voicemail.) Most of the phone is the same, except that you can use any SIM, from any carrier, that the phone can handle. (If it's a CDMA-only phone, that usually means only Verizon - Sprint won't allow it on their network. But if it'd CDMA and GSM, any carrier except Sprint.

My unlocked works on Sprint.

Voicemail (the normal one) works on the carrier's server, it has nothing to do with the phone - as long as the phone can call the voicemail number.

Here in Canada there are perks to purchasing from a carrier, such as enabled WiFi calling, and "enhanced messaging" as Bell likes to call it (RCS). Not sure if it's the same for you folks south of the border and specifically Verizon customers.
