clearing memory space

i've been trying to clear up memory space on my sd card, but despite deleting thousands of files, the amount of space available remains unchanged. is there something else i have to do other than simply deleting files? thank you!

Move everything off the card to your computer, see if the sizes match.

Format the card (with all your data on the computer, not on your phone) and then move everything back see if that helps. Otherwise, it might be something that is cached possibly?
