Unable to Get Email

My phone has stopped getting my email, on my AOL account and both my gmail accounts. I get a message saying "not enough storage in device. Delete some files and try again."

I have no idea what to delete. I've emptied all the old emails. I got SD Maid and clean stuff up with that. I've moved everything to the SD card that I can. Emptied the caches. On my storage, it says I have 437MB of available space.

The other storage is listed as:
Picture,videos - 2.28GB
Audio - 188 KB
Downloads - 1.17 GB
Cached data 71.13 MB
Misc files - 7.76 GB

The SD card has 28.42 GB of space available, even though I've moved all the apps there that I can.

What can I safely remove to get enough space to be able to get emails?:-\

Open a terminal and type: df
Hit enter.
In the results look at the line beginning with:
/data
See how much free space you have there. Probably not much. /data is where email, texts, apps and some other stuff goes. So /data is where you need to clear some space.

You've already done some good things - deleted emails, run SD Maid, a good cleaner tool. Moving to SD card and emptying caches not so much. If you have lotsa texts deleting those could help, also deleting unused apps.

If you can't get email or make any more space in /data but df shows you actually have some room, try this to kinda 'reset' your email app:

Go into your email app, remove the accounts, then:
Settings > Apps > Select your email app > Clear cache > Clear data
Reboot the phone.
Add the email accounts back in the email app.

Hopefully that will get you going again.

I just realized that you have a Samsung. Try this to delete log files and make space in /data. Works on many Samsung phones. No root required.

1. Dial *#9900# - This will bring up the following screen - Sysdump

2. Hit the 'Delete dumpstate/logcat' button. Hit OK on the confirmation dialog.

3. Scroll to the end of the screen and hit 'Exit'

Thanks for the response. When I dial *#9900# I just get a "no longer in service" message from Verizon. I tried searching in my phone for "sysdump" and logcat, but go "no results." I do have a Samsung GS4 and all this started a few weeks after it updated to Lollipop.

So frustrating. Now I can't even update apps because of storage space issues! Gah!

I guess that code has been discontinued. Too bad, it was supposed to work on a GS4.

Couple of questions...

What did the 'df' command say about free space in /data?

What the heck is 7.76GB of misc files?

Samsungs are kinda different and I'm no Samsung guru. Maybe someone who knows more about the quirks will chime in on this.

You might try calling Verizon and see what they can do. Maybe they have a new code that replaced "#9900#.

I'm not sure what the "df" command is.

I have no idea what "misc files" is composed of! I'm about ready to go to the Verizon place - but that frustration is always my last resort! I prefer the vast unpaid research department that is the internet - and esp here in androidcentral where folks are so helpful and friendly. At least, that's been my experience!

OK, instead of doing a command Install this simple little app called Storage Truth. It's very small and will install in very limited space. It will tell you how much space you actually have left for installing apps:

Do you have a file manager installed so you can see what all those misc files are?

LOL There's not enough room on my phone to install Storage Truth.

I think I might have found some way to move stuff, though. I couldn't find a file manager, per se, and there's nothing in there called "misc." But I'm in "my files" now, and from there I seem to be able to move things to the SD card, esp images and videos. I'll poke around some more and check back.

thanks for your help!

All right, moving pix and vids to SD card freed up room. I got myself 2.62 gb of available space, and emails actually have showed up! I have looked in that misc file and here's what's there:

Glad you got it going! Now install Storage Truth and you will always know how much space for apps you have left.
