galaxy s5 with bad esn on sprint

Hey everyone, I have a friend who has a s5 with sprint but they said the owner (their bf) cancelled and didnt pay the bill so they locked the phone. Now my question is that can or would I be able to use this phone w verizon (my carrier) at the the moment? Also if it does not work I could still use it as a wifi device correct? Shes practically giving me the phone as a gift so im just curious?

On wifi as a data device yes, on Verizon no

No you cannot. Once the IMEI number is blacklisted the phone will not work for ANY carrier. They all share this blacklist and won't allow an unpaid phone onto their networks.

The only way would be to somehow talk with Sprint to pay the balance. Otherwise you will only be able to use the device on wifi.
