How do i fix my lock screen?

I tried changing my lock screen by putting it on password. Now all of a sudden its just a swipe but when I tried changing that it gives me a password to put in. I don't know the password and cannot change my screen. I've tried changing in by error but you can't do that with a swipe. Someone said I should clear my credentials but I don't know which one

Welcome to Android Central! Unfortunately, this issue crops up with some regularity, and I've never seen a satisfactory solution besides a factory reset. You can try clearing credentials by going to Settings>Security>Clear Credentials.
