I've deduced that it's either software or the usb port of the phone.

I plug it in and it shows the lightning bolt but just stays there.

A few times last night (twice) it would finally move from the lightning bolt to showing the percentages, however, it definitely stopped as it got to 5%. The first time, I didn't know what happened it just didnt charge. The next time I specifically watched it, made sure it was untouched and once it got to 5% it just stopped.

I have tried to turn it on multiple times to charge it and it usually fluctuate between 2 and 4% dying quickly, however, a few times I would insert the charger it would immediately say charging and then just stop to not charging. I tried to insert the cord at different angles and strengths to no avail. Once it was at 5% and it would do the same thing.

I tried to insert it into a computer and it was the same bolt. I tried different outlets, different walls and different chargers.

I've had this happen before, I would have to take it out of my case and it would charge for a second. I previously thought it was something very bad, however, the next day it ended up randomly charging.

I'm not sure whether the problem is hardware or software, because I would believe if it were hardware, the lightning bolt wouldn't show up on the phone at all; it is apparently registering on the phone. Maybe there's no charge or maybe the phone has a mechanism stopping it from charging. Oh yea, I wiped cache partition too.

Edit: So, Ive changed walls after letting it sit and try to charge hoping it would get to 5% and i could see if the charge was registering at all. First time i boot up and it doesn't get past the verizon stage, turns off, then it tries to boot back up itself and now I'm stuck at a Light Green/Teal "start-up failed" screen

edit, edit: Now that I think about it, I believe the first time I put it on the charger last night it was done charging and then went to some screen that stayed there. Like the teal one. I wasn't sure what it was but it stayed there even after I had taken it off of the charger for a while. I restarted it and I believe the phone booted up normally at 100% until we get to the problems I'm having now

hmm im not so sure man. im thinking that I turned it off when i shouldn't have. as I said, i charged it to 100% and it just stayed at this screen for a few hours. I originally left it to do its thing but it hadn't budged in over 3 hours. I looked up info about this screen and saw posts about it staying there and they had to restart it. So, i restarted it. I believe we've had the problems after this.

After leaving it on my computer charging it's now at 13%, which is the most I've seen in a few days. Scared to touch. Once it gets to 100% may be able to deduce more

alright so it got to 29% and i believe i nudged it and it stopped

so, I put a little pressure on the cord when i pushed it in and it started charging again, only to let go and it stop..

any idea what it could be now?

Faulty connector.
Have u got wireless charger?

Sent from my SM-G925F

no, but i might look into it. i presume its cheaper than fixing the connector?

there's no way this is a software issue? for example, something shutting down the battery once it gets to a certain percentage

thats true. it was just odd that it was initially showing charge and then shutting off right when it got to 5% when i had it on. like it was charging, but once it got to 5% it stopped

it hasn't charged at all since i nudged it
