Proximity Sensor works and sometimes doesn't

I love the fact that when my phone is lying down idle on the table, i can just wave my hand across the proximity sensor(near the ear piece) and the phone will just come on.

Now this feature also during calls. As soon as you put your phone towards the ear the screen goes off and as soon as you remove it away from the ear the phone comes on.

During the last 2 weeks this feature works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. If i wave my hand across the phone when off it doesn't come on sometimes and during call it's the worst. When i put my phone towards my ear it goes off as expected but when i remove away from my ear it doesn't come on. I have to physically press the button.

What do i do?

Try wiping the cache partition and rebooting the device.. A bit of spring cleaning goes a long way...

Also, are you using a screen protector? Sometimes they can interfere with the proximity sensor.

yes using a screen protector. i also thought about this. But this never happened a month ago. but then again maybe because its a cheap screen protector.
