What do these buttons do, and how do I use them? The right one is always grayed out, so it doesn't work, and the left one switches between 3 different options, but nothing happens.

Cant findt anything about it on google.

It's the normal S8, and not a carrier specific phone. I didn't notice the symbols until today, and they are only vicible in pro mode.

the right button is a toggle for the autofocus. When it has the grid icon (like on your image), it means it is defaulting to multi point autofocus. If you are able to click it and toggle it, the other option is center point autofocus. I am not well versed enough in photography to explain the difference between the 2.

For the left button, that toggles something called metering. The 3 options are: matrix (what your camera is showing in the image), spot, and center-weighted. Again, I don't know enough to explain the difference. I typically don't use pro-mode, although pro mode did come in handy when i was taking pictures of a partial solar eclipse last year.
