Found someone willing to sell me Gear S2 that they said they got from T-Mobile.

My current carrier with my cell phone(Android Phone) is through AT&T.

Will this smartwatch have no problem linking up/working with my cell phone?

The guy selling me the watch states

"It's not bound to a carrier. It's a standalone device. Your carrier doesn't affect it"

Is this true or not? Wasting my money?

Bluetooth connectivity isn't affected by the carrier but the standalone capability is. Just like with a phone being locked to a carrier, these watches are as well.

Re: T-Mobile Gear S2 Work With AT&T Android Phone?

As long as it's connected via Bluetooth to the phone it's fine but it'll be like you didn't add on a data plan for the watch when away from the phone. I'm not sure how Wi-Fi and call forwarding will work but I suspect they'll be fine as well, just no data network capability from AT&T. Unless you're planning on using it remotely often you probably won't miss the feature and you'll save some money each month. If you plan on using it remotely , then yes it's a waste of money to buy it.
You could get a separate data plan from T-Mobile for just the watch but it's not the cheap one they offer if your phone is with them as well. At that point it would work remotely as well as when tethered to the phone.
