Faulty Gmail sync

ok so i just updated my captivate to froyo when it was released by ATT last week. Now i find that when i create a new contact, it no longer prompts me whether to make it on the SD card or a gmail contact and there is no menu i can find once im in the create contact screen to make it link to my gmail contacts. After i save a new contact it doesnt sync with my gmail contacts either...whats going on?

MENU-SETTINGS-ACCOUNTS AND SYNC

Tap your google account and make sure the checkboxes are checked correctly.

Thanks, but I did try that as soon as I noticed the problem.
