120hz or 60hz for S20+ battery life?

My phone should be arriving today. How can I decide to use 120 or 60 with all this noise about battery life. I will wait and assess it later. I bought the phone in order to benefit from all the new bells and whistles (including 120, not 60) so my hope is I will use it and manage my battery life some other way.

Give it a full week with each setting... a week at 120hz only, then a week at 60hz only. You'll be able to notice or not notice.

While still new and using this non-sop, I got my refresh rate at 120hz. Took it off the charger at 7am. It's now 1150am. SOT is 4hr 23m so far and I have 70% battery remaining and a full 10hr work shift ahead of me.

Gonna run it to the max today. I'm also bringing my 45w charger along for the ride lol

That sounds pretty good. Definitely seems the people on here who said they already returned the ultra because battery was trash didn't actually have one.

Not only that, but Samsung phones learn your usage patterns over the first 1-2 weeks. So someone returning for half a day of use is either lying or extremely unreasonable.

I really hope the battery can handle a regular day at 120 because trying it now it is so amazing that I don't want to turn it off. Scrolling and and animations are gorgeous.

That's why I don't go based off everybody else's comments or some of the Tech Reviewers either etc. It always seem as though there is a lot bashing devices as soon as they're released or people don't really have them, but post a lot of mis-information about a device. The battery is good in my opinion and will only get better with use, as it learns and adapts to how you use it.

If you're out and about and need maximum battery life,this is what I suggest;

FHD only
60 Hz refresh
Mobile connection set to 3G.
Mobile data and location off.

And......

If you're out and about and you really want to go all out, enable developer mode and go into "simulate colour space" > "monochromacy". This will turn all your display into black and white. If for eg, you plan a day to do a lot of photography and videoing, you can set everything in black and white to really save battery, just for framing purposes.

How does this compare to enabling "Maximum Power Saving" mode under the Power Mode screen? On my regular S10 my battery is currently at 42%, if I enable this option it says my estimate battery life is 1 day.

That is good to know in a pinch.

On maximum power mode you are limited to a few applications only.

The 2 main reasons I'm trading my note 10+ for a s20 ultra (512 gb unlocked)
Are the camera and battery life (I'm on my phone all day and note 10+ has died on me plenty of times ) my day including gym , commute to work (NYC subway) and back is 12 1/2 to 13 hours
So I definitely need my battery to last that long
(Can't charge at work)
No point in having 120hz if the phone is dead in my pocket, so I'm setting my phone at 60hz , 1440p
Would that get me the 13 hours I need ?
Invest in a USB battery? Use it less?

You're asking a lot.I doubt the S20 Ultra is significantly better.

Update:
So I've been using the phone for 4 work days now at 60hz and 1440p , it is giving me 14 hours + on a full charge , switched to 120hz today , it's a very noticeable difference , and a real pleasure to use , won't really know until Monday ( work day ) if it's gonna make it to the end of the day
(12-1/2 to 13 hrs)
This is on s20 ultra 512 gb , snapdragon , unlocked version
I'll update next week

I'm just going to keep it on 120 Hz, battery life is really not a concern when I have so many wireless chargers around me at work/car/home and never have battery issues on any of my phones.. And from my limited observation having it on 120 Hz isn't draining the battery that much it's making me notice. So that's what I'm going to use.

I guess I'm the only one that prefers the look of 1440p 60hz over 1080p 120hz. I'm used to 60hz and I scroll pretty fast in general, so while I notice the smoother look of 120hz, my eyes prefer the additional sharpness (for view text on twitter, facebook, etc.) of 1440p. 1080 is noticeably fuzzy to me. Hopefully they'll fully unleash our beasts and let us go 1440p AND 120hz. I'll take the battery hit, I'm sure we all have multiple chargers if need be, plus I have my phone optimized to my personal preferences to maximize life without sacrificing user experience.

Ive been keeping mine at 1440 p 60hz also. The phone its plenty smooth. 120hz was actually hurting my eyes while web surfing m

Been using 120Hz since I've got it and I don't want to ever buy another device with 60Hz. I was skeptical when reading or watching reviews but now I'm sold on it.

Yeah I feel like if I turned 120hz on and kept it on, for days I'd probably never go back, as it's not like 1080p is prohibitively blurry, but given it's noticeable for me personally, and the battery I'm likely gonna stick with 60hz until they (hopefully) allow both.
