well, i was already rooted prior to froyo and 1.47 and my PRI is 1.34 and i have no complaints. for what that's worth.

and Yea I think you will be able to use Legacy root procedures... Try it out and let us know...

Remember the Bulk of the people in this section Have Root and didnt OTA...*BECAUSE YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO*

It will but you'll already be rooted, so no need to root again when your back on 2.1.

For all the people the current method scares, (but I highly recommend you learn and use this method if nothing else for understanding what is actuality happening during the process) since it's confirmed that a modified Simple Root works, just wait. He will update Simple Root for 2.2. I would bet no longer than this weekend will he have it updated using the new exploit.

So i was wondering what root method should i use? Someone please point me in the right direction

I successfully reverted back to 2.1 without any problems.

Then I downloaded the OTASimpleRoot that was linked a page or two ago. That too went by without a hitch. Even successfully flashed AmonRa.

Currently creating a nandroid backup. Will edit with any further updates.

The question I have, did you skip everything that had to do with unrevoked-forever?

When I read through the XDA forum on how to do it, do I just skip everything with Unrevoked? Then when I have reverted back to 2.1 us the SimpleRoot?

Yes I ignored everything with Unrevoked.

Once 2.1 loaded I downloaded Simpleroot and followed it step by step.

Update: AC rom 2.2 has finished installing and is booting for the first time. Wish me luck.

Everything is up and running.

I now have fully rooted and Nand unlocked 2.2 on EVO.

Big thanks to everyone on this forum, those on XDA for figuring out exploit, and all those who helped make the AC themed Rom. It is awesome.

Not really sure I can be much help to those who run into problems but I can try.

Are asking for a root method? If you rolled back...you should be rooted already. Can you explain further.

Apparently I'm missing something...I need to read back through the XDA thread...

Edit: The exploit allows you to revert back. Got it! The first part allows you to revert back to an older version and the second part is just regular rooting! Sweet! Yes follow UTnick direction below.

Ok, I'm kinda confused. It boots the RUU back to 2.1 update-1 but after the extractions? And does it load as 2.2? I'm just wanting to wait because unrEVOked gave some many problems on the last OTA. Is there anyone who can possible PM me an response and help explain it better. I will also check on the OP in XDA to check the status and see if anything change. I really wanna learn how to properly root. Sorry if I sound stupid bout this.

You will not have 2.2 unless you do an OTA, use a 2.2 RUU, or install a 2.2 ROM.

Following the instructions on XDA will not automatically get you 2.2

You can only Root thru 2.1

lets call this the Second Chance Root method


Those who are on 2.2 because they did the OTA *SMH* are given a second chance by rolling back to 2.1

Then you just Root with Simple root... *FORGET ABOUT UNREVOKED*

after you unlock Nandroid just Flash a 2.2 Rom and your good...

Its really not that confusing...

I get people still won't get it but whatever you need to roll back to root if you want it now...

so you followed all the steps and stopped just short of running the unrevoked zip, correct? cause all you have done so far is revert your phone back to a rootable version of 2.1 and will no longer have 2.2. so at this point you just need to actually root it and then install a Froyo 2.2 ROM. u you can use the link above to do so to roo it and after it is rooted you will then have to install a custom ROM. i suggest using the AC ROM which is in the Sticky section.
