This is such a DARE to those who root....... I sincerely don't believe it will be unrootable, do you?

I was thinking the same thing... :p
Also, I am no phone programmer, but if the features were not available 3 days ago, would they be able to implement them by, say 5:00 today? I can't imagine there being too much tweaking between later today and the release tomorrow? I could be wrong since I dont' really know what all goes into the process.

The only issues I have had with the leaked version .3 is a few live wallpapers are just black and don't load. Battery life has improved and speed all around (espcially the loading of web pages) has increased. I only got 24 hours out of my phone a few times since I have had the EVO and that is when I didn't use my phone except for a few short calls and some text messages. I just got 20+ hours with moderate usage, so seems better to me.

Not sure if anyone already posted this - but here's the official tweet from HTC an hour ago:

HTC
If you applied the unofficial EVO update, we are working to get you back on the official track. We will get back to you in the coming days

They will eventually find a way to root it....

Of course it's gonna get rooted again anyways.
Nothing is unrootable, but you'll be depending on someone caring enough to find a method for a device that was already rooted once, and people ignored these types of warnings and updated anyway. And then you're stuck with a phone that has a locked bootloader and the nand is kernel mtd read-only...and the leaked engineering rom that unlocked it won't flash anymore.

Too risky IMO.

From my point of view I wasn't rooted before hand and a few people on here can tell you I wrestled with the unofficial update for a few hours before taking the leap.

I had never rooted a device or jail broke my old iPhone 3G.... For the most part my EVO and my old iPhone did just about every thing I wanted it to do and then some. I still semi miss my Stock Android Nexus One... Only reason I dumped it was my options were only T-Mobile or AT&T.....

The only reason I would consider rooting would be to dump the crap Sprint (or any other carrier for that matter) loads on your phone with no choice by you. I would love to dump Sprint Navigation, NASCAR (and I am actually a NASCAR fan) NFL and a few other minor things I never use and just take up space..

I am looking hard at that FRESH EVO 3.0 ROM that is out and based on the stock EVO Froyo build leaked on Friday.... That one seems to be for the most part stock Froyo for your EVO minus the bloatware...

I read "in the coming days" as NOT Aug. 3.

actually, i think they're saying that people that have the unofficial update will have to wait a few days for htc to come up with a solution to get users "back on track." all others are still good to go.

So now will we have to wait because some other people couldn't wait and installed the leaked version. That just doesn't seem right.

If Sprint does not start the roll out of 2.2 tomorrow it will have nothing to do with the leaked version from Friday.

If HTC and Sprint have a final version ready to roll out that is different in any way from the version leaked on Friday it should be a pretty simple update via OTA........

If they DON'T roll out 2.2 tomorrow it's because there are more bugs than they expected and they want to fix them before releasing them to the masses..

Yes; everyone gets punished because some people downloaded the the update from HTC's server and installed it onto their phones while others downloaded the image illicitly and installed it onto their phones as well.

NO UPDATE FOR YOU ON TUESDAY!!!!

Here is me on my Evo after the 2.2 update.

I'm willing to wait for a clean bug free update, I really don't want problems on this update.

The update should be tomorrow. They will issue a press release and warn users who downloaded the unofficial update not to apply this update, but instead to wait until later this week.

Sprint is banking big on the EVO. If they delay this, then they won't be the "first" to have froyo. Remember their whole thing is theyre the "first"

Agreed.... With Verizon expected to push it out to their Droid X later in the week Sprint would be foolish to let them do it "First"

But then again a PR hit is nothing compared to several hundred thousand phones acting up at once because of a bad build......
