2.2 Froyo Update - Report & Find Solutions to Issues Here (post #1 & 2 updated 8/8)

I agree it's broken and should be fixed. I'm doing saying this by memory, because I no longer have an EVO, but... as a workaround, I believe when you plug the EVO in to a USB source, you can swipe downward on the notification panel and click on the USB notification. From there I think you have the option to change it to Charge Only, and then making that the default connection type. I would try choosing both. When you plug it into your computer to access the storage card, you can always change it from Charge Only to Disk Drive.

Let me know if 1) that works and 2) If I got the verbiage right as far as what to click on.
It doesn't show up in the notification tray when I plug it up in the car like it does when I connect it to a pc, so I don't have the option to click on charge only unless I do it from the the settings menu, and it still doesn't work.

Handcent / SMS initiates media player

Every time someone sends me an SMS, HandCent starts playing one of my media files, and that media file is NOT my Notification sound. I wonder if Rings Extended is giving me a problem.

2.2 Froyo Update - Report & Find Solutions to Issues Here (post #1 & 2 updated 8/5)

I can confirm that push gmail has stopped working for me again as well (no changes to my Evo), on my secondary (work) account. Lovely. My main account is still syncing fine, however. It doesn't seem fully logical that there isn't some interaction with Froyo secondary gmail accounts and gmail - otherwise it seems both should stop working.

I have three accounts set up right now and two of them actually seem to be pushing, one isn't. The one that isn't is the one I happen to use quite a bit, but isn't my main account.

So irritating!!!!!

I'm not sure if I'm actually signed out of google talk.In the settings I have automatically sign in unchecked, but when I open talk and press menu it shows sign out. Shouldn't this say sign in since I adjusted the settings.
Never noticed that but it looks like you're right because it's still automatically signing in when you open the app. I kept "Automatically sign in" checked so that's why I never noticed. Also I don't think having it checked is a battery drainer because you don't sign on until you open the app. It's not like Fring where it'll open in the background even after rebooting the phone.

Ok instead of opening up another post.. Has anyone been getting any error messages when receiving SMS texts?? It says the application messages . process com.android.mms has stopped unexpectedly.. Anyone else getting this?? I have done a hard reset redownloaded all my apps and reinstalled the text comes through most of the time but sometimes after I click force close I lose the text...

Found that Google Translater does not translate after upgrading to 2.2. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but did not fix it.

I had the same problem with google translate but after a hard reset and reinstall of the application google translate works and has the correct accent in Spanish, Italian and French.

It sounds like another one for the first post. Until it's fixed, you might have to use a charger like this one, so the EVO doesn't see the charger as a USB host/computer.

Just an add on, I am using Handcent..

If this doesn't happen with the built-in messaging app, I would report this to Handcent.

Hey Cory, it does happen with the build in messaging app. I uninstalled Handcent and it gave me the error also, the error is coming from the built in app..

After the update I had .3 went to official ROM and now the earpiece speaker is sounding staticy I know its a software issue because I did not have this issue before. I have done a hard reset and this did not help. Should I try downloading the RUU to do it again?

OK, Cory, I am new to this Android thing, too. But I am enthusiastic and love the hell out of my EVO. (I admit I am jumping ahead a few reports, but I cannot wade through all of the same thing and find NO answer) If I agree with you to not use a Task Killer, will you please tell me how to stop all of the stray programs from runiing abandon with no way within Froyo to stop them. I do not care to have Amazon MP3, Sprint Zone, FootPrint, etc. etc. etc. continue to run without my consent. I have waded through every App pre-installed and installed by myself to set the parameters and short of rooting my phone, there is no way to stop them EXCEPT a Task Killer. UNLESS, you can enlighten me and everybody else. thank you!

Stock Exchange Mail App and Wav Files

I read a couple of posts that are related to wav attachments and I'm still having problems. New to android (evo) and need to be pointed in the right direction. My question is below. Thanks in advance for your advice.

http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...tifications-not-working-2-2-a.html#post272536

I'm getting my notification/syncing on some emails except for emails with wav attachments. The wav files are audio voice mails that are routed to my company email so I can listen to them directly from my email account rather than calling in. Reading other posts/forums, some people who also receive wav files in emails are getting them but aren't able to play the wav files but were previously able to do so prior to the 2.2 update. My evo has the 2.2 update. I think it maybe the stock exchange app because i forwarded the email with the wav attachment to my gmail account and it came through and played just fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Luv-n-Android:

If I'm understanding correctly, you have 2 problems:

1) You do not get a "new message" notification when you receive an email with a .wav attachment.

2) You are not able to play .wav attachments

If the answer to #1 is yes, is it both audible notifications and/or the new message envelope in the notifications panel that you are referring to?

For #2, there's a solution listed in post #1, but it requires a 3rd party app.

The bottom line is that task managers in 2.2 are no longer permitted to do anything more than Androids built in low memory killer does, which is designed to free up space only when absolutely necessary. This is for the users benefit, to make switching from app to app a faster and more reliable experience. Just because you see an app show up in the task list, does not necessarily mean it is consuming resources and eating up battery life. It only means that it's loaded and is available when necessary. In addition multiple applications may access shared services. Killing a service for one application can cause another application to not work properly. One of the signfigant benefits of Android is the elimination of users having to "manage tasks". Despite your past, you should not, as a user, have to spend time killing tasks or spending money on applications that do what the operating system should be doing in the first place. Task killers (which were developed prior to 2.2) are worthless and are probably causing more harm than good, due to their incompatibility with Froyo. Processes that are killed (which is the same as forcing a crash) will restart themselves after a pre-determined period of time. I believe it's 5,000ms & this is by design. IMHO Android absolutely had to institute this. As someone who has been around the forums a while, I have seen nothing but issues from people using task killers. Something always stops working because a task killer killed one app and in the process caused something else to stop working correctly.

There's a really good explanation of Android task management, that was written by Dianne Hackborn, a Google Software Engineer. I highly recommend reading it.

If the phone starts to fade as the screen starts to go out, if you touch the screen to bring it back before it completely blacks out and locks, it never comes back to full brightness. You have to hit the lock button and then unlock to get it back to the brightness you're used to.

btw 2.2 is a god damn joke.

what carrier in they-re right mind enables EVERY program to start when the phone starts?

doesnt this phone have 500 some mb of ram? well after startup with all the CRAP bloatware there is only 150mb left...

wtf.

When using Dolphin, my screen frequently flickers to black and then back to original screen. This may be a flash thing? I think it might flash once flash images, etc, are loaded and then go back.

Another issue is, whenever I click on a link to go to another page, it reloads my current page and then goes to the page I clicked on after.

Anyone have any of these same problems?
