2 day old LG G3, bad screen?

So I knew the screen wasn't as bright in the sunlight as my S5, but wow.. This morning it just seems so washed out. So I compared it to my S5 at 75% brightness. This is the result.

I get no haze at any angle on the S5 but the LG is horrible. So I'm wondering if I got a dud screen.

Certainly there's a great difference between the two in the pic but it's difficult to tell whether it's a fault rather than a characteristic. Could you conveniently compare to another in a store?

Actually I work at a major electronics store and it's hard to tell in the light especially with them tethered to prevent theft lol

End of day, lights out perhaps. Tell them it's to help answer a query on Android Central.

In addition to the screen issue, the battery it's literally just draining line crazy. And I've disabled everything possible.

If I recall right another user diagnosed a particular case of battery drain as being caused by Carrier IQ. Possible in your case?

Well, today we opened a brand new one, and the screen was the same. Apparently it's just the nature of the particular type of display and how it's lit. Unfortunately, it's not something I can live with.

I could handle it being dim in the daylight outside. But it mutes images too much for my personal tastes, and the angle just shines the haze like a beacon. I've been messing with settings and comparing pictures of all sorts all day with no fix.

Just going back to the S5 for now. So disappointed tho because the camera is da bomb. Never seen such lovely pics and lightning fast focus.

Looked at an HTC M8, but without a true Knock-on/off feature, it makes the switch pointless as I've only had the S5 a few months, and that's the main reason I was switching.

Thanks for the feedback tho, guys. :)

I'm with ya, have both the S5 and G3 and can't decide. Love the Knock on/off feature of the G3 but can't stand the screen. Not that the screen display looks bad but everything just looks washed out outside. Compared some outdoor pictures today and think the S5 just looks better, yea I know they are over saturated and contrasty but damn, they look good. The screen is the biggest problem.

I tried the contrast thing and it was awful. Just makes things darker. Gonna check out the link from Will6371.

The best way to do this is to edit. The settings db. You can then set the intensity, hue, and contrast. If you use the accessibility method try putting the circle slightly above the camera icon - that works pretty well. I have compared my phone now in store to the S5 and everybody was wowed! I luv my G3. Sorry am on mobile _ if you dont find the editor method online i will post it when i get home.

NICE!!! I put my circle on the top half of the file manager icon. What a difference. Thanks.

The more I play with that setting the more I like the G3. Compared same wallpapers to my S5 and looks a heck of a lot better. Not as good as the S5 but damn close. So now I'm rooted with the new hotspot mod, G3 Tweaksbox and Xposed and it's just about perfect.

Just put the circle on top of file manager and it made a huge difference. Always heard on HD TV to set contrast(black level) to a darker level for true contrast.

Well, I'm giving the phone another shot. I've banned myself from even looking at the S5 for two days to see if I can overcome my irritation with the angle haze on the display.

I love everything else about the phone. I really want to keep it.
