I am thinking about getting the Gear S and would like to look through the available apps but cant seem to find a lot of these. Where do I go to look these up? thanks!

It seems you can't actually look through the app store unless you have the watch. I wanted to do the same because I'm thinking of buying one also.

I just ordered mine Last night. So I'm here trying to learn something about it.

A lot of useful apps are not free. And a lot of Gear Apps are not specifically designed for Gear S as they typically only work when you tethered to your phone via BT (because they are designed to older Gears). The true Gear S apps that can work without tethered to your phone are few and hard to come by.

Afraid so - you need the Gear App to be able to see what apps are on offer. Alternatively. ask questions here so us ITK can tell you what's there :)

I wondered if there was a calender app that i can add events too and will sync when it gets back to the phone.

I highly doubt they are on there but I'd love some apps for my wemo light switches and the chamberlain app for my garage door opener

There is wearable widgets.

Any app that can be made a widget on your android phone can then have a button on the watch in the wearable widgets app. I use it for my Hue Lights.

I ordered my watch now researching apps. Why is the calendar pro app needed? I thought you can view/receive notifications from phobe calendar?

Download and install the wearable widgets app (I forget where I found it but can look if you don't find it).

Launch the app on your phone and select the Plus sign to pick a widget. All widgets on the phone will be listed.

When you pick the widget that widget's program will take over and let you set it up. For the Hue app it lets me pick one of my themes.

Launch the app on the watch and you can run the widget. Some of them may not make sense to run that way, but the Hue one does since there is no other feedback needed. The gmail widget ended up just launching the email on the phone, so that wasn't helpful.

Yup I got it working fine. I'm experimenting with it now. I did get my 24 hour watch face on the Gear S so I am happy. Tomorrow I will see how many widgets I can pile on the thing. Hehehe

Hi folks. I joined this forum for the Gear section to find out more about my Fit and S so first I want to say thank you to all.
So far on my S my 2 favorite standalone capable apps are My Notes In Gear, free and Voice Memo, also free but my most used wasn't free ,$1.99, Big Clock Launcher.
As an avid long time Color Note, free , user on my phones I wanted something done as well, that kept all the features on the phone while adding standalone capability on my watch. I didn't think it possible until I got My Notes In Gear.
Another one I accidentally found to be able to use both tethered and separate was Voice Memo. I spoke a note on the watch while away from the phone but later noticed an icon on my phone pull down area I'd never seen before. I dragged it down, tapped it and it opened the voice memo app on the phone. I can edit via keyboard both on the phone and watch, send it to email and others if sharing as a voice memo or send to many others, including messaging apps, when shared as text only.
Big Clock Launcher gave me a big digital clock with the date and up to 8 app icons or 12 icon slots if I don't use the date feature. I am spoiled by launchers and docks on my phones and tablets and finding that app went a long way toward my S becoming a daily wear and more than occasionally used device.
Again, thanks for this area to learn in and I hope others find the apps I mentioned useful. I really didn't elaborate on how functional they are but I think you'll like their standalone capabilities

Yes. There is a calendar app that syncs from phone to gear s. So far I cannot seem to find that it works vice versa, so from the gear to the phone. However we have family calendars set up across all platforms, so iPhone calendar to google.. Just can't go from adding anything thoug the gear to the phone yet :) I got my gear today and love it

Check out Infinity Watch - Curlball.

I've got it and will start to use it once the developer finishes working out the bugs for adding apps that we want instead of just the ones on there. Most of the apps on it I don't use and as of yet (but he's working on it) can't change them to ones I use.
For now I'm really happy with Low Energy Clock.
My Notes In Gear is totally standalone capable after its last update and stays open when the watch goes to sleep (even if I don't enable leave screen on always option) now. Great for checking off lists over a longer period of time or notes I might need to check again in a few minutes.

I for some reason can't find opera mini on my galaxy s6..
