is there anyway lg will just replace the phone with a diff one that's not a G4? i've lost more stored data again on this fiasco of a phone. i don't want to have another LG, especially not a G4. this phone is a ticking time bomb or like a defective car that with faulty breaks. you never know when it will just fail.

Well have you talked to them about doing that?

And how did you lose stored data again? Are you not backing up everything to the sd card? Are you not using cloud storage?

I hate to say it but losing data is on the user. You can't rely on the internal storage of the phone. The internal drive may not fail but any number of other things can happen to the phone that would make it unrecoverable. Things fail. Redundancy is key.

Did they replace your original with one with a serial number below 507?
My SN 506 has had no problems so far (knocking on wood).

not everything can be saved on sd card like app data and such. i don't back up everyday so yes i guess that's on me but devices need to be reliable else they shouldn't be for sale.

You can try the freezer trick. The boot loop issue seems to be related to heat expansion breaking one of the electrical connections. Stick it in the freezer for about 15 min before turning it on. If it boots fine, leave it in there while you do your backups to keep it cold. Hopefully this helps you.

Mooncat's advise saved me. Was watching youtube videos on my phone on a non ac room for hours. Then i started to order food online. Thats when it started to do boot loops. Put the g4 inside the freezer for a while.

Now its back to normal.

trying the freezer trick but seems to only give me a few seconds, as in until it fully boots up, that's when it freezes then goes back and restarts again. :( maybe i need to keep it frozen? for hours?

Did you keep it in the freezer even after it booted? That's been the key from what I've done and seen others do. If you pull it out to do backups or whatever, it's going to heat up and cause the looping.

LG has one of the easiest ways to backup there is - for un-rooted phones, LG Backup and Restore. After upgrading to Marshmallow I did a factory restore, and was able to wipe the main memory and get back 100%. All settings, all apps, EVERYTHING! Sorry to hear about your problem but with any phone you got to keep the stuff backed up. Even with your new phone, it may get lost, stolen, dropped, etc. Complete data loss can happen at any time. Not just because of the boot loop issue.

I also use SMS Backup and Restore because I need all of my sms messages going back years. I have that scheduled for nightly backups, automatically.

My G4 H816 died today too...WTF!!!

My h815 died on me yesterday. Was just watching videos on youtube then poof. Boot loop. Freezer trick got it working again for a few hours but started to do the boot loop again the day after.

What's disappointing is the carrier nor LG here in Singapore refuses to acknowledge that the g4 is having this issue.

Carrier straight away sent me to LG without taking a look at the phone, while LG got no idea about the boot loop issue. Even asked me if the battery is charged. (they think I'm that stupid)

To add salt to the wound, LG said it would take 5-7 working days for a repair of this kind. Or maybe the lady that answered the phone has no idea whats going on with the g4. That maybe the case so im not going to blame LG.

Long story short my carrier has this mobile swop scheme or is it more like scam? Where in you pay $8 a month and when something happened to your phone they will replace it with an equivalent new /refurbished one. Little did i know that i still need to fork out a significant amount to go through the process. ($161) i just tell myself its better than buying a new phone worth 600 or waiting for LG to repair it and being phoneless for a week or more.

So i am typing this rant on a newly refurbished g4. Hope i dont experience the issue again otherwise I'll be going back to sammy.

yea i was taking it out of the freezer since i can't use it in the freezer lol. ah well i'll find a way.

yea i was backing up about once a week but i still had a week's worth of stuff that didn't get backed up. plus when i restored from a backup, there were stuff missing. it said something like since it's a different device it might not restore everything. guess it didn't.

Sorry to hear this. In the US at least the carrier is the first line of support to replace a defective in warranty phone. LG takes much longer for replacement - I think that is everywhere. The $8 is a scam imo.

Thanks man. To think this carrier is the most popular here.

Since this is a refurbished phone they only gave me 6 mos warranty for the unit. Which means i still need to keep that $8 a month scam.

I have one that is 507 and it failed. Got stuck in the boot loop and verizon store ordered me a refurbished phone. Mine is only 7 months old and I'm still paying for it and I get a refurbished phone. Disappointed in that. I read that Sprint is giving customers new ones if their serial number is in the 505 range.
