3.5 mm Headset with mic not working with S5 (not bluetooth)

I ordered a headset with a boom mic (3.5 mm jack and cable) for my s5. I guess I just assumed it would work. When i'm driving I prefer the reliability of the cable. Anyway, the headphones are fine. The mic does not pick up anything. Does the s5 really not support the combo mic/headphone jack?

Thanks,
Dave

What's the exact brand/model of the headset? Is it specifically "Made for iPhone"? If so, there might be compatibility issues -- the iPhone's headphone jack configuration may differ slightly from Android devices.

Like B.Diddy says, it depends on the headset wiring. Even with newer Samsung headphones, the S5 still used the older standard so the mic would work, but the action button might not. If your headset doesn't have the right wiring, the mic might not be recognized or it might be making contact with the wrong lead (getting sound off of one ear plug only, microphone working through an ear plug, action button making the sound cut off, etc.).

It is a Starkey plug. I will see if I can find the model number. I told them specifically for Android, not iphone. I don't think the vendor knew what they were doing. Maybe this is the problem. I guess I can check it with an iphone. I think you have answered my question though. It SHOULD work if i have the right jack configuration.

You could also find a wired headset that you know works correctly, and put the plugs side by side to make sure all of the contacts line up.
