But that's just your opinion. Not everyone likes sense, and not everyone likes the GEL. I, for one, dislike GEL, and think it's a real step backwards. If Android forced me to use it, I might start looking at other platforms. If you don't like one skin, there are lots of other choices available. No one's forcing you to use Touchwiz, for example.

If you don't like GEL switch. At least phones would get updated quickly....

You were pretty clear about the reasoning behind locking down third party "skins". That's what I was replying to, thereby disagreeing with your opinion by providing an alternative solution.

Based on your statement about which ones are good ("all of them are absolutely terrible except for Sense") I have to wonder why you have a Galaxy S5. Either software isn't high on your list of "must haves" or you really are ok with TouchWiz.

Because the HTC One m8 was to tall for me. I had it and liked it, but for my personal preference it was too tall.

I am using Nova Launcher currently and as soon as root is achieved I will be removing TouchWiz completely.

Just because I bought a device doesn't mean I love everything about it......

I'm currently using the galaxy s4. This is a very powerful device but one thing comes to mind right away it is not as polished as iOS. I will be sticking with device for a while but it's easy to see that there is a difference between Android and iOS as far as the device having a smooth interface.

Your OP was nothing about trying to like Android. It was nothing but a list of ways you consider it inferior to iOS. If you REALLY wanted to send the message that you were trying to like it, you failed miserably.

Oh, please. I'm sure your intent when buying the M8 wasn't to trash it, but read the 9 bullet points in your OP. Every single one is a complaint about Android or a statement of why iOS is better.

The beauty of Android, compared to iOS, is the range of choices available, and the ability of the user to tailor the OS in many ways, including look and feel. Taking away the users' option to choose TouchWiz, or Sense, or any other skin would be a step in the wrong direction.

I know TW is the one thing that forum denizens love to hate, but it doesn't appear the typical user finds much objectionable about it, given Samsung's sales.

No I said skins like Touchwiz because those hinder phones getting upgrades in a timely manner.

Trust me people don't buy Samsung phones because how awesome Touchwiz is. They but it because Samsung advertisers the hell out of them and every store you go into the sales people push Samsung products.

In the long run, would TouchWiz hurt repeat sales? That is, once people experience TouchWiz, would they be unwilling to buy future products that had it installed? I have a feeling that if TouchWiz was so bad, Samsung's advertising and aggressive sales people wouldn't matter when customers decide to upgrade. They'll jump to something else once their 2-year contract is done.

Some background info:
I had an M7. At first, I loved the phone. Eventually though, I grew to dislike it. Between the bad hbattery life, a perceived lack of polish, and the camera, I longed to go back to the iPhone. I camped out in front of my apple store for the 5S launch and even went to work that day. Now the M8 is out and I can't resist it's siren song. Everything on my 5S "just works" (although iCloud isn't copying my photos to my PC), but I miss Blinkfeed. I miss the gallery plugging directly into Flickr. I miss auto syncing my photos and videos with Dropbox. I miss not having to cup the bottom of my phone to direct sound towards me.

I miss a lot of things that only Android does. I want to get the M8.

So here's what I'm asking for help with. I want to be able to hit 2 days on a charge with moderate usage. I want a "just works" kind of experience with the M8; is it possible on Android?

1. I have multiple email accounts that receive a lot of email. I can cut these down, but I still feel that I receive more email than the average person. I need an email client that works well, has a unified inbox, and supports fetch. I'm of the opinion that push sucks up battery life. Is this true?

2. Tweetbot is the best twitter client out there; is there anything comparable on android?

3. Is there any way to access my iTunes movies on android?

4. I've seen good things about the Cal app. I don't like the stock HTC one and I'm not overjoyed with the Google calendar either. Thoughts?

5. My iPhone is jailbroken almost solely for biteSMS. Is there an SMS app that allows for quick replies without leaving your current app?

6. Scrolling backgrounds. One of the other reasons I jailbroke was for a scrolling wallpaper. Is there any way to get this while still using Sense?

Ok let me see if I can answer some of these, by no means am I an expert but I can pass along what I have experienced or read.

1. There are several email clients out there that have different features and any of them should be able to handle your email needs and I've read some say that push does use up some battery but I personally haven't seen it but I have a charger at work so my phone pretty much stays charged.
2. I've never used Tweetbot so I can't tell you was comparable.
3. I've never used IOS and really dislike iTunes but there are several threads here on how to move your music and movies from iTunes to android
4. Good thing about android is there are option so if you don't like Google calendar you can find an alternative usually for free.
5. With the latest Android OS, you get your SMS notifications in the top of your phone so when you swipe down there is an option to reply right there from the notification window.
6. Yes you can use "Live Wallpaper" with Sense.

I don't mind a delay in the calendar syncing, just so long as it syncs. My main gripe was ease of use. I didn't think that the HTC calendar was very intuitive and the Google one didn't seem much better.

Interestingly enough, Textra (and Chomp) is by the same company who wrote biteSMS. I'll definitely give it a look. Thanks!

Apple would have to pay my mortgage and fund my retirement for me to consider going back, lol.
Because the customer service they dished out following IOS7 was so poor, there is no way they could compare to the customer service I've gotten with Samsung.
So yes, there was definitely a learning curve, there still is.
But for me, adapting is key to moving on and I refuse to stay stuck in the Apple straight jacket.

Aside from my issue not being resolved ("will be fixed in next iCloud Control Panel release"), Apple's support was great for me. The guy really went out of his way to get me an answer.
