Well, for those of us who bought our Ns4g on launch day, our return period is up today. I kept mine, I live in the Baltimore area and not not experienced any real major signal issues besides a slightly weaker wifi than I was use to with my Evo 4g. My phone hasn't let me down at any point with not being able to perform certain tasks. Plus, with minimal complaining to sprint about wifi, they sent me a free Airrave and have waived the monthly fee.
Im not bragging, i just want to let people who also have this phone that not everyone is returning them and that some of us are quite happy with our purchase.

Have you been able to get 4g downtown?

I didn't get mine on launch day, but I have no intention on returning it. This is the best smartphone I have ever had. It gets better and better to me by the day. I do have issues with the 3G/4G radio, but it hasn't been too much of an inconvenience that I couldn't wait for an update to fix it.

I'm just nervous enough about wether. or not it is even a fixable problem. If it were confirmed to be a software issue then it'd be a different story altogether

I can understand that. But I do remember that the EVO and Hero had the same problem and was fixed with a software update. So, I'm assuming that this is the same problem.

I'm keeping my phone as well. This has been the first phone that I actually like lol. Usually after I get a phone I'm bored with it very quickly but I can't put this phone down. Dentistry eventually I'm going to try and root it, but fit now I'm loving the vanilla android experience! :-)

I still have a few days to return, but I'm going to keep it.

I did get a response(phone call) from my email to Dan@Sprint.com and we are trying a couple of different things to improve signal. Typical stuff, update profile, update PRL.
If there's no improvement by Friday they want me to do a hard reset.
Other than that, I've very happy with the phone.

I'm keeping mine for now. I will revisit my decision in few months when new phones will be arriving. I can always sell it and get something else so I'm not worried. For now its one of the best android phones on the market. Who knows whats going to happen down the line

Live in Baltimore too and am extremely happy with this phone. No signal complaints or anything. Keeping this sweet baby!

It highly likely to be a software issue that is fixable. A few on the Evo forum are now reporting some signal issues since upgrading to GB,

Keeping mine!
I'm due for an update on my other line in October if, IF, there is something new that I just have to have.
Which, all indication is, there isn't going to be. The EVO 3D looks good but I'm more a fan of the SuperAMOLED than 3D
And thanks to everyone here that has helped me understand what rooting is and all the things that this phone is good for!!!. . . I'm getting closer and closer to doing so but still a little chicken. . .
Which seems to be easier on the NS4G than any other device. Isn't that what it was made for?

I've decided to keep mine as I know a fix for the signal issues will be provided in the near future. Installed Volume+ (specific for GB, no root needed) from the market and so far has improved the speaker volume issues considerably.

As for future devices I am still hopeful about Sprint/Motorola event scheduled for tomorrow: Sprint branded Atrix I hope :D

Keeping mine too. I only had radio issues here at home with my old Airave. Have a new one now and it's great. Full bars on both wifi and signal. I will try the Volume + for increased volume.

Kept it. This is the only phone I have had in the last few years that I was not already looking to upgrade from within the first month.

I'd marry this phone if I could >.>

Honestly, if I can survive the Palm Pre, which angered me enough to through it on the ground and break it into pieces, then I can endure any phone.

Are the problems that bad?
