3g connection

i have the samsung captivate through att. we are in a 3g area, but my phone will not connect to it. could this be a driver problem, or something else?

man i'm behind the learning curve on this phone. i guess that is what i get for holding on to my bb for so long. haha.

the wifi trumps the 3g so is there any app that i can quickly toggle between wifi & 3g if i need to?

There are widgets out there that allows you to turn on/off wifi with a touch. Might be worth checking into. If you turn it on, wifi will be used as long as you can connect to a router.
