Up until a few days ago I have been on the stock rom. I decided I would finally try flashing a rom. I wiped the cache, partition, and dalvik and then flashed Com rom 1.3 with CWM. Loved it. Everything was working great but then I noticed the 3G was cutting out frequently. Got tired of dealing with that so tonight I wiped everything and put on Evil Fascination 3.5.1. Again, great rom but the 3G is cutting out frequently. Did I do something wrong?

A lot of people are having this problem right now unfortunately

I haven't found anything that works for me, but something I saw that worked for some people is to call tech support and request a DMU resent

Yah it just a known verizon problem right now. unfortunately we are all along for the ride. I know my 3g has been a bad word for quite sometime now. I called them and didnt want a replacement phone. hopefully it turns around. I also think the fact that the service goes in and out is also the main drain on the battery, hence the cruddy life of them as of late.

And they won't even admit it's a problem...

they told me the 2.2 update must have broken my hardware. right cus that's likely

I'll try that tomorrow. I wish it was something on my end. I hate having to call them.

I just ran a speed test and my speeds are ridiculously slow. Like 123kbps down and 58 kbps up.

Mine fades in and out constantly, sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's stupid slow

but calling them wasn't bad, about 10 min. I tell them what's wrong, to please forward me to lvl 2. I tell them I've already done a factory reset. If you have a spare verizon phone, have them swap the esn from your device to that one and then back. Doing that will accomplish the same thing. It usually fixes it for a spell but it always goes back

also try *22899 thats what they had me do last time i called, worked for few hrs then prob came back. think they just need to get there act together.

I think it's a verizon issue, not a phone issue. My wifes Eris has been doing the same thing. It totally drained her battery in 6 hours yesterday hunting for 3G back and forth. I hope this isn't a result of the iPhone on the network.

Ironically enough, the problem started for me immediately after i *228'd my fascinate.

I just went into my verizon account and swapped out esn's with a buddy that upgraded from an eris lately. Started up the eris, *228 option 1, swapped back. Has been fine since last week saturday.

I was having horrific problems with 3G cutting in and out, if you can call it that. To me it looked like the phone was failing to open the 3G data connection when it was needed by any application that uses data, taking so long to do so that the application would report "network problem" even in a good strong signal area. When the data connection would finally open, the data transmission speed was horrendous and the connection would drop in the middle of the session.

In researching the issue I found discussions on the DMU reset and the ESN swap fixes. The ESN swap fix is supposed to do the same thing as the DMU reset. The ESN swap is accomplished by the user on their account management web page - you just find another phone you can provision on your account by entering the new ESN or MEID and updating your account to use that phone, then, you repeat the process by putting the Fascinate ESN or MEID back in service. Verizon CS can also do it.

I was quite skeptical of this - the timing suggested that something wasn't right with my phone or my ComRom 1.3 installation, as opposed to a network problem, but I tried it anyway, and things are working much much better now. I'm always leery of placebo effect with "fixes" like this, but I think I can safely report that the 3G data connection is now established quickly when it is needed by a data application or the browser, and my speed tests, which were in the <100 kbps range in a good signal area yesterday, are now in the >300 kbps range in an area where there is barely enough signal to light up one bar (approx. -106 dBM). So for now, I think the ESN/MEID swap did the trick.

It was kind of old school to pull the old BB Storm 2 out though. Just for grins I put a charge on the battery so I could see what a seven minute boot looked like once again.

I just fixed my 3G drops by ESN swap yesterday
.
On the VZW web site just activated an old Blackberry to my number, waited 5 minutes and reactivated my fascinate! Working better than ever actually.

Called VZW today thinking it would be quicker to have them reset the DMU. Spoke to a very nice lady in T2 support. She advised she could not do it and only an engineer could but she could try something else. After powering up device it didn't work. She started a trouble ticket.

After hanging up broke the Storm2 out of mothballs, activated it for a few minutes and then reactivated Fascinate, so far so good.

Long story short it wasn't quicker to call after all! :p

i concur, went to the store, got them to do a ESN swap and things seem to be running fine.

hey i just talked to verizon wireless tech and he told me the way it looks is that the 3g issue dropping out is the phone is trying to find active roaming because its jumping from one tower to another but its the only phone i have around me and i cant b on it when they resolve the issue so thats were im at right now gonna try and resolve it tomorrow unless someone else comes up with a fix but they did say it was on there end not helpful but its the info ive gotten from them today

someone explain how to do this...I just found an old razor dont think it was my number but def a verizon phone how do i switch back and forth. thanks.
