3G cutting out

I could do with a bit more info on the ESN swap too, please. I have an old Palm Treo I used on Verizon a few years ago, so I think I have the means available.

Just got off the phone with VZW. She checked a few things but didn't bring up the DMU reset. I had to bring it up. She said she didn't think it would work but if I really wanted to that she would do it. I asked her to go ahead. Once I turned the phone back on it got the 3G icon much faster than it had been. Also my speeds are back where they should be. Hope this continues and doesn't go back.

Go to your Verizon Wireless account management page. Under Device, select Activate Device. Enter the ESN or MEID of the phone you want to activate, follow all the prompts and clicks until you activate the new device. Then, go back and do it all again, but using the original ESN or MEID.

You are basically going through the process of activating another phone on for your number, then activating the Fascinate again.

exactly, you pretty much just activate your phone and then reactivate your fascinate. I actually had another problem along these lines when i tried flashing when 2.2 rom first came out, and used odin. For some reason I could not make calls at all. It keep asking me to activate my phone, and when I did nothing changed. Went back to stock and same issue. It pretty much just sat in airplane type mode, (which indecently my phone started doing after after the issues with the 3g), and so I took it in, and they did an ESN swap, and I guess it cleared up something on their end that was bugging my service, and it started working, and did the same with the 3g dropping issues. Running fine once again.

So basically, who knows what is going on.

That's sounds like u didn't do. *228 than option 1. Just a thought though

Just spoke with verizon they admitted to the problem wit there service and my phone and they are sending me a new one so once I get it and reroot to com rom 1.3 ill let ya know how my 3g goes I may stay stock for a few days to see how it is first they kinda mentioned it may be the ED01 something wit it

I dont understand what the new phone will do if it is a service problem not a hardware problem....Think we need to wait for them to fix there service. Maybe im wrong, but thats why i said i didnt want a replacement phone from them when they offered it.

They said it may have been hardware related so I figured y not give it a try and see what happens I guess I don't mind resetting up it maybe due to the ED01 but not fully admitting that .but what can it hurt

Hi,

This is my first post. First of all, I thank all the devs and posters here for great information/help I've been getting.

I've been updating ROM's (SC through Community ROM) without a single problem until recently when my 3G cut off on Community ROM 1.3. The 3G icon appeared and would be gone whenever I tried to use data/internet. I browsed through Community ROM threads and couldn't find people with the same problem, so I thought it was my phone (hardware) by coincidence with 1.3 update. Tried almost all that were suggested (e.g. *228 - 1/2, factory reset etc, going back to stock DL09/ED01), but the issue persisted. Actually I went to Verizon store after restoring my phone back to ED01 and complained the issue. The guy at Verizon just asked a few questions and then recommended the phone replacement under warranty. It took no more than 10min; he just ordered a new phone... And then I viewed this current thread and tried ESN swapping and boom, the mobile data came back to life. It's been 3 days and the data works great and now I don't know what to do with the new phone that is coming next week. Is it usually a refurbish phone that's sent as a replacement?

Thank you,
Jake

Yes it is, if your phone is working well now I would just send the refurb replacement back. But it's up to you.

By doing the ESN swap on the website, do I still have to do the *228 on my phone??? If so then I'm screwed....lol

My 3G is barely ever on so it don't cut out it cuts in :). Seriously my 3G might be on 10% of the time. I don't have another smartphone to do an ESN swap as if I use a non-smartphone it screws up the promo pricing I am on (don't ask how I know). I called tech support and was transferred 2 times to a higher support team. I asked about the DMU and that is what I think they did. Keeping fingers crossed, but so far so good. Tech rep said if this does not work next option is to Reset/Data wipe the phone and the next step is a new phone.

I did the ESN swap few days ago. I dont see a huge difference. I really dont know why a new phone would make a difference. You will be in the same service zone. That is verizon just trying to give you false hope. It is there cruddy service right now.

I had the same issue and did everything you guys are doing. It would work temporarly. Verizon sent a refurbished phone and everything is good, no issues

This is interesting. colotl, when you said temporarily, how long did you mean? My mobile data have been working great since the ESN swap (Saturday morning) until today (Monday morning). My replacement phone hasn't arrived but will be here by today or tomorrow. If this could be temporaray, maybe i have to monitor it a few more days...

BTW, ESN swapping doesn't seem to require another phone. I googled it and found a page describing how to get it done. It could be risky, i don't know. -Jake

Jakeykim,

The length varied. The ESN swapping would fix the problem the longest about day. #228 and #22899 was more like a hit or miss from working for a few min to maybe 2-3hrs before I would see the 3G dropping.
Verizon tier 2 looked and my individual connection with there servers in there database and noticed that it was completly cutting out and thats when they said it was hardware. I live in a major city and towers everywhere and no reported problems were present. The refurbished phone is always on 3G and full bars.
FYI The phone I received did not come with a battery, cables or back cover and make sure you send out the original phone phone within the time given. I was a day late and they charged my account 500! It got refunded once the phone was reveived in there end.
