3gp video on computer

Hey all. When I transfer my videos to my computer, the videos will play with no sound. I have tried Media Player and Vlc, which both play the video but with no sound. Assuming this is a codec issue. I also tried a few video converters with no luck.

So I obviously want my videos to have sound, and want the people I send them to to be able to view them with both audio and video. So what I ask of you guys: is there a nice, simple video converter that will convert the videos from my Incredible to a more standard video format such as .avi? One that keeps the quality of the videos? I don't need a feature rich video editing program, but rather just a simple tool to convert 3gp videos to a more suitable format.

How are you all handling videos on your computers? Thanks for any replies!

I had EXACTLY the same frustrating problem. Videos which I created on my DI played just fine (picture and sound) on my DI, but there was no sound when I transferred them to my computer. The problem is that the default program for playing these videos on a pc (I assume that that's what you're using) doesn't play the sound. So, use Quicktime to play them, and both sound and picture will play perfectly. If you don't have Quicktime on your pc, download it. Then right click on the video file on your pc, choose Quicktime as the program to play it, and you'll be golden.

By the way, Commander, Miro's great. I use it all the time. It's just not necessary to use it for the .3gp videos created on the DI when you use Quicktime (rather than Windows Media Player) to play them...

Hey thanks for the info guys. I did read that Quicktime would play these without a problem, however I am not a big fan of Apple and would rather not use anything of theirs. Though I am considering it for ease of use! However, tho I don't want to convert every video I want to send, I don't want my recipients to have to download anything just to watch a video! Know what I mean! That's why I was thinking of converting them to a more useful format so that people can just click and play. I'm sure lots of people will have Media Player, tho Quicktime is popular as well!

Thanks for the link Commander, I will check it out. I did find a program that successfully converted them to .avi, but want to check out other to see which is best. I just wish the videos would be in a more compatible format from the start!

Hmm I got Miro Video Converter. Seems simple and has a nice easy to use, clean GUI. However, I'm not having any luck using it. I drag a video in. Select mp4 as the output format, click convert, but it just sticks on "Starting" and doesn't go any farther. Any ideas?

Also I see that you can convert videos specifically for certain Android devices. However, the Incredible is not listed. Any of the Android devices listed work better for the Incredible? Thanks again. I'm hoping to get Miro Video Converter to work as it seems to be good for the job.

OK I found a good program IMO. It's by DVDVideoSoft. They have many free tools such as youtube downloaders, audio converters, video converters, burning and ripping software, and photo/video editing tools. The one I use is called Free 3gp video converter. Very easy to use, nice interface, and fast conversions. Thanks for the help guys.

Just a quick note - anyone downloading from DVDVideoSoft's website, they have Ads on it (not on the software mentioned - it is ad-free) that have [Download] button. Don't click on that button - it is for the Ad software.

I see the thread seems a little old, but maybe we can get somebody to write a 3gp CODEC for use in MediaPlayer or even WinAmp. That would be awesome.

Ok, so now it's technically a really old post... but it helped me check my programs list to see that I had Freemake Video Converter already installed on my machine. Added file, clicked .mp4 button - piece of cake. Video with audio.
