4.4.3 Update

Haven't gotten it yet either, up here in the GWN, for my N7 2013. I did, however, get it for my N4 yesterday and with the exception of a few cosmetic changes, nothing untoward has happened....yet. I'm in no hurry.

edit: It came down around 5:30 pm this afternoon. I have noticed that Feedly on both the 4 and 7 freezes up. Other than that we will have to wait and see.

Finally got the update yesterday. No problems to be found, and the UI is more responsive. WiFi seems to be improved in terms of stability and speed. No unusual battery drain, either.

No real noticeable differences. I thought maybe my touch got worse when playing a particular game, but my case may cause some of that. So I guess the long of it is that the touch issues still seem to be present. I will report back as I use it more.

Cheers!

So, had a random reboot today while listening to podcasts on BeyondPod. This was happening on the previous version, so no improvement there. Touch issues seem to still persist as well, so, overall, no real improvement for the issues I was seeing before... Sad.

Cheers.

In NY. Got mine last night. Screen seemed a little more responsive but otherwise seems to be the same as before.

Got mine today, I'm rooted so upon reboot, the screen flips to TWRP but I can't see the file anywhere to flash. Any tips?

I had a feeling that as soon as I posted here saying that I hadn't yet received the update, it would come. Sure enough, it arrived this afternoon. I haven't installed it yet, but I guess I will and see what happens. I wish there were an easy way to undo the update if I find it causes problems. I know several ways to handle such a problem on my Windows desktop, but on my Android tablet, I'm clueless.

There is - go here and locate the previous firmware, then
- boot into Fastboot mode (with the device completely off, press-and-hold Volume Down + Power)
- connect it to your computer
- download Fastboot.exe from XDA
- run "fastboot oem unlock" from a Command prompt (elevated to Administrator privilege) (this WILL wipe your device)
- then extract the contents of the firmware download and run the "flash-all.bat" file

Many thanks, GSDer, for this information. Am I right in thinking that when you say "this WILL wipe your device," you're saying that everything on it will be erased? If so, how is this different from a factory reset, except that the factory reset may bring the OS back to something earlier than 4.4.2? Either way, this sounds like a much more extreme step than I'm likely to want to take except in the most dire circumstances. I was hoping for something more akin to Windows System Restore, which only gets rid of all programs and other non-data changes added since the last restore point was set. Have I misunderstood what you've said?

Yes, everything on it will be erased - exactly like a Factory Reset. The difference is that once the device is wiped (by the unlock command) it is followed by flashing the new firmware (whether an earlier firmware, the current firmware or the newest firmware - whatever you have picked).

Please note that a Factory Reset by itself never changes the firmware version - all it does is wipe the user data, any apps that were added/updated, etc.

There's not a solution that I'm aware of that allows you to downgrade the OS while keeping your data (the reverse of an OTA) - sorry. The most that you could do would be to use a tool like Helium: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ils?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&token=mTnXVodf to backup your apps and app data.

Thanks very much for another very helpful response! I will keep it in mind in case I need it. For now, though, I am hoping the update to 4.4.3 will be uneventful. I am also going to look into Helium, though the recent reviews in Play Store have not been encouraging.

Again, thanks very much.

I have noticed that Feedly on both the 4 and 7 freezes up. Other than that we will have to wait and see.
I was about to confirm that Feedly doesn't work now that I have installed Android 4.4.3, but just for the heck of it, I tried to look at Feedly on my desktop computer running Win 7 64-bit. I couldn't reach it there, either. I tried two different browsers. So perhaps the problem is with Feedly rather than with 4.4.3.

Got mine today? Google pushed it I suppose?

Any chance GPS now works without an internet connection?

Got the updates to both my N7 and N5 last Thursday. can't say as I have noticed any difference.. performance or battery wise.

According to the Feedly blog, they are under a DOS attack that put them off line. I noticed that with the update to 4.4.3, Feedly started to freeze up as well, so did a little "sleuthing" and found out about the DOS attack. However, it does seem strange that it happened right at the same time as the update?

Got my update the other day. No huge differences for me, but it does seem to perform tasks a bit more quickly.

Really having a hard time finding a reason to install this update on my perfectly working N7 wifi. Google hasn't released a changelog and there's evidently no security reason for the update. Just don't see the risk/reward ratio in favor of updating.
