Yeah this is weird. Clearly T-Mobile is ready for KitKat, they just don't wanna release it for the Z1s.

Definitely dumping this phone on my first jump upgrade on July 30th. It's been slow and laggy and apps keep restarting even though they are open. The phone needs a serious update. WiFi connection constantly drops out at home and all my other devices keep a steady wifi connection.

You should return that device. I've been using my Z1s since February and have had none of the problems or frustrations you are experiencing.

I agree with the last comment. I came from the Note 3 and couldn't be happier. Phone is snappy fast extremely reliable with no lag, amazing battery life and outstanding camera. I probably won't upgrade to Kit kat cuz it's ruined pretty much every phone its hit.

Perhaps "ruined" is kind of strong, but I certainly didn't see any improvements when I had it on my Galaxy S4. I thought that the performance stayed about the same (was using the GPE version), but battery life took a BIG hit. I vaguely recall some people griping about the full Samsung TW kk update.

Anyway, I'm going to play the wait and see game.

You can't return the phone without a restocking fee... Like its your fault that the device sucks.

Well...this is rather a strong statement. I have devices using 4.3 and 4.4 and IMO it's not that big of a deal. Yes, I would like to get 4.4 on my Z1s but it isn't going to add any additional functionality to my device. We already have all the updated Sony apps that came with the Z2 except for 4K video recording, not a game breaker for me.

If having the latest and greatest Android updates is at the top of your "needs" list, I'd suggest you get a GPE or Nexus (soon to be Silver) device.

Kitkat brings more than just new features. And, I want to make sure that I can fully utilize any apps that have been updated for compatibility with 4.4

According to some people, KitKat has also systematically crippled every phone that it has hit. I'd rather wait and avoid any bugs, kinda like the bugs during the Z1 update fiasco.

And I agree. Calling the device crap or a piece of junk is kinda strong. From my perspective, it's the best Android device I've ever owned.

Be careful of what you ask for, you may not be as thrilled once you get 4.4. I don't know what apps you use, so you may enjoy some additional functionality, don't know. I do know from my experience that all may apps now work the same on my 4.3 (my Z1s) vs 4.4 (Nexus 7) devices. And, in fact, the exact opposite of what you described happened with my 4.4 device when I go it, some of my apps didn't work as they use to (or didn't work at all) . While on my 4.3 device everything works fine.

Just to add my thoughts on the 4.4 Kit Kat update, I just got my Sony ZL on Monday and updated it yesterday, really the only problem I'm having is the battery life has gotten worse, but I was kind of expecting that as 2 of my other non Sony phones seemed to lose some battery life after 4.4.2 updates.

weird, 4.4 has been nothing but a vast improvement for my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, and especially my Note 3. Any lag that was there before is now gone, and battery life (especially on the Note 3) is much better.

You're one of very few. 4.4 has been a headache for A LOT of Note 3 users including myself. I was much happier with the Note prior to the kk update. I'm much happier with the z1s and I will not be updating the software unless vast improvements have been made to battery life and overall function.

Still no update. No one seems to know anything about it. My 2 z1s are very buggy and I have to reboot my phone to get my keyboard to work. Bluetooth and wifi doesn't work at the same time defeats the purpose of WiFi calling. Force close of apps. When ppl see me get frustrated at these phones I tell them these are special features T-Mobile added to this phone so I would get so upset I'd throw my phone and get a supported model. Not this unsupported pile of crap. And I don't expect an update ever for this one . can someone say a repeat of the sanyo zio blah this is my 2nd new phone I purchased ever and both was flops back to back.. I normally buy used. I'll learn from my mistake the next time I buy

Hopefully this means in the coming weeks will be getting the update but what I really want is android L when is released. I am confident sony will update it but of course they will take their time as we all know.

I hope you're right, but, as Luke pointed out, there have been 3 versions of KitKat certified for the Z1s. Unfortunately the final release of a certified build is up to the carrier, in this case TMo, and so far TMo has not released a Z1s KitKat update.

I was told by a TMo rep that reason we got a Z1s versus a Z1 was because of some "lessons learned" by TMo with the Z. For example, the metal frame was perceived as interfering with signal reception. Also, TMo wanted 32gb due to consumer desires. I suspect TMo wants a KitKat build that enhances the phone and based on some reports, previous Z class KitKat builds have not been well received by everybody. I wonder if TMo is just being cautious and "watching" our OS backs!?

Another thing that has me cautiously excited is that Sony announced a KatKat build in the last week that allows applications to be stored on the SD card and not just data. This is a feature that would play to TMo's uncarrier image and maybe something we could see in an update. You can read about this build here: Sony brings App to SD card support in latest Xperia KitKat firmware | Xperia Blog

So, if TMo delayed the release to ensure we get a stable build that enhances our Z1s experience, I personally will be OK with the delay.

Right. Their has been certifications for months. I am already on my 3rd phone. I will continue calling in until I get a working phone. This unreasonable 500 dollar phone that has to be replaced constantly. No support from T-Mobile or Sony. The only way I will get an android upgrade is to break down and switch providers and phones. This is unreal. Certification after certification still nothing. Putting a new certification doesn't mean anything for these phones . all its doing is keeping everyone from going ape **** on T-Mobile and Sony. When there really isn't any plans for any upgrades. I know this I won't be a T-Mobile customer much longer. After this bad taste of horrible customer service and zero support on this flagship phone.
