4a5G is not water resistant

Just confirming the obvious here. My 4a5G took a very brief dunk into the lake, as in no more than 5 seconds but that is all it took. I left it in rice for 3 days and once there was no more moisture in the cameras I fired it up. The boot screen message said the Android system was corrupt and to boot up or wipe and reinstall. I opted to boot up. Everything works great except the phone and text functions. Thankfully I'm able to get what I need off the phone and I'm back to my 2XL as I await the new I've 4a5G I've ordered. Lesson learned.

Oops Not good. Yeah that is one of the compromises with the 4a 5G over the 5. I am just very careful with my phone for that reason. Good luck with the replacement.

Oh, no! So sad! Glad you were able to boot it up and get all of your important information off of it! Phew! Let us know when you get your replacement! Did you have insurance from Google or your carrier?

Oof! This is one of the reasons I typically purchase Google Preferred Care -- even though I'm always really careful with my phones, you can never predict an accident.

Yes, I'm lucky the phone is essentially working except of course for the core component being the phone! As for Google care, it just doesn't seem worth it to me. Once you add up the cost plus the deductible you get close to half the value of the phone. This is the first phone in many years of ownership that I've destroyed. That being said, I just ordered a waterproof case for it for the weekends at the lake.

Oh, I didn't take into account that you have the 4a 5G. I usually get the more expensive Pixels, so Preferred Care makes a little more sense for me.

I got Google Preferred Care for my Pixel 5 and am very happy about it because, as you say, despite being careful with a device, one can never predict an accident!

Let us know when you get that case! It sounds really nifty!

Yeah it was never advertised as being water or dust resistant. I've seen you tube videos where it survived quite a bit of exposure to water. But likely just lucky as again it has no IP rating.

Sometimes it's just how the phone falls and bumps, or in this case, gets submerged. Phones can be so finicky like that!

This is the case I bought. It seems quite watertight, but people can barely hear me when I'm on the phone with them! Looks like I'll swap between cases for when I'm at the lake or at home.

My son is going to take my dunked phone and see if he can wipe and get it fully functioning again.

Sorry to hear…. Good luck on the salvage project.
