5.0.2 Factory Image posted

I wonder what bugs they introduced (sorry, I guess the PC word is "fixed") this time?

Ummm, still waiting on 5.0.1 here in Toronto.
Then again, insofar as Google seemed to pull the OTA 5 once the gnashing of teeth began, maybe they're having 'deja vu all over again' with 5.0.1 and are pulling that too?

I have 5.0.2 running smooth on mine and the damned charge port has decided to become loose...crap!!!

Yup. Wish the 2012 N7 came with Qi wireless charging like the 2013 model. Or that Asus build quality was better.

RE 5.0.2, I think this was specifically released to address problems with the crap NAND memory of the 2012 N7. For the majority of us that never got a 5.0 OTA notification, we should be glad. I am thinking that with 5.0.2, we will finally get a full roll-out of OTA updates for our gimpy tablets.

FWIW:
According to XDA Developers, the 5.0.2 update addresses “issues with MountService which should now start before performBootDexOpt [and] changes related to NAND have also been pushed. Fstrim, introduced in Android 4.3, caused some serious issues on Lollipop… devices with slow NAND should now have a noticeable performance boost.”

I'm not so sure it it the charge port that is the problem. There have been a couple of times where Nexus doesn't charge since I have installed 5.0.2 and other times with the exact same cord and charger it does.

I have had the issue with the loose charging port before and sent it in for repair. This is something different. I think that this update for some reason prevents the system from charging at seemingly random times. However, if I restart the Nexus, it always charges no problem.

In regards to 5.0.2 running smoothly, I only seem to get it running smoothly for an hour or so after the restart. Once I look at Facebook and check the news then it basically grinds to a halt. I then have to restart the tablet (with a really long boot time) in order to get any response out of it.

Facebook is bad on 5.0 . I use Facebook on the web with my tablet.
I have been playing a bunch of games so far with no problems...Baldurs gate ee, icewind dale ee. Simcity build it. I haven't used Chrome yet. I have Dolphin and that is ok.

I fixed the charge port. I just popped off the back and with my finger slowly pushed down on the exposed part of the charge port, enough to where I can feel it give a little. I plugged in my cord and it fit more snug but still loose. So I just repeated till I was satisfied with the fit and it is charging ok now.

I think I will fire up Chrome and see what happens.

5.0.2 is running very well on my device, and has been since the day the image was posted. There has been no degradation and I haven't encountered anything that I'd consider a show stopping bug, in fact the only bug I've found is the app-switcher one, which is an annoyance but that's it.

I don't bother with Facebook, but I have used Chrome a fair bit, that's also running perfectly fine.

The annoyance I've experienced with 5.02 is using the Google search bar. Device hangs up on me. I've also noted that I have to wait until all the updates are complete after powering up before using or the device is really slow and laggy until updates complete. Other than these all is well. I have FB and Messenger installed.

5.0.2 arrived and I allowed it to install last night, followed by a couple of manual hard boots with the expectation that may help get 'ducks in a line'.

So...? Meh. With the implied expectation that we'll see an improvement, I'm not sure if I'm seeing it or I'm just willing it to be so. Are lags shorter? Maybe. Issues with Chrome and Facebook with 5? Scrapped them both in favour of the Dolphin browser and accessing Facebook via it at m.facebook.com and have no intent on going back now. Battery power? Never an issue for me, but haven't had an opportunity to test it and see if it's better.

I just need my device to work as intended with a minimum of fuss - and that should be a prerequisite for any 'improvements' made to the OS. Pity it took Google several tries to (potentially) get it back to where it was when I first bought it.

Did you do a factory reset? Did you go straight from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2? Glad to hear that you got an OTA, you're the first I've heard of.

Got my update on 12-23 also. I am quite pleased with the improvements in speed. Have tried both Chrome and Facebook and the tablet is running far better then 5.0. Now let's hope it stays that way!

Didn't do a factory reset. While I understand that's the best way to ensure a 'clean' OTA install, there's two things in play here -

1/ It shouldn't be necessary. Google, are you listening?
2/ I can think of better things to do over the holiday season than sit here downloading and reinstalling and resetting preferences on 90+ apps.

And I went from 5 (something of an, ahem....disappointment) to 5.0.2.

Lollipop restore is easy after a factory reset. Returns apps, settings and homescreens. You just have to sign in again to things like Dropbox et al. Set aside a couple of hours (just in case) and keep the phone/tablet plugged in to AC.

Seems like only folks who already had 5.0-5.0.1 installed are getting a 5.0.2 OTA at this point.

Mine got 5.0 right away, but I'm still waiting for 5.0.2.

My N7 was dog slow on 4.4.x and going to 5.0 improved things a little for a few days...but then it became so slow it wasn't even usable. I finally did a factory reset, and the damn thing is running like a champ. Fluid, fast, responsive.

I'm trying to be patient waiting for 5.0.2. After this update, I'm going to do another factory reset and then set everything back up again.

If your 2012 N7 is running slow on Lollipop, try a factory reset. It sucks to have to do that, but an unusable tablet sucks even more.

Don't install Facebook on lollipop. It seems like that is the culprit for slowing down the tablet

When the stability of Chrome and Facebook became an issue on my 5 install, I chucked both in favour of Dolphin and accessing Facebook via m.facebook.com from it. Regained stability with the benefit of m.facebook.com is not needing to install the stupid additional Facebook Messenger app.

With 5.0.2 update, Chrome has regained some stability (and Dolphin has lost some - sigh...), but I'm sticking with m.facebook regardless - I've just placed a Chrome bookmark on my home screen to take me right there.

If you don't perform a factory reset after going from 4.4.4 to 5.x.x, you will likely continue to suffer performance and/or battery issues.
