I know it's early in the game but has anyone noticed how this new update is handling power consumption?

Until the vzw update has a day to settle we cant confirm anything. In the few hours since I updated it has seemed to be the same.

I'll echo Joe fresh. Updated earlier today and it's been the same. But for me that's good as I typically got 4 hrs SOT during 16hrs of uptime.

Did you get the update? Hopefully there's no battery issues.

Yes, I updated as soon as I was notified it was available. Still too early to see the effect on battery life but I'm going to be very interested to see what the consensus is after people have had this for a day or two.

As it is I'm really not complaining as I get 4-4.5 hours of SoT and 16-18 hours of overall use. If it gets better than that it'll be amazing.

I downloaded 5.1.1 last night and had 35% battery after. I have been trying everything to drain the battery to 0. It is at 2% 14 hours later. I think there has been a fix on the battery.

For me battery while in use seems like the same but the standby time has greatly improved.

I have 5.0.2 still. I have AT&T. Any idea when the update will be available? Keeps saying my software is up to date.

Samsung Galaxy S6 - Black - 32GB
ZAGG Tempered Glass
AT&T

Wow. Looking pretty impressive today. Looks like I'm on track for over 5 hours of SoT!

I agree that the standby time is much better. On a full work day I would go home with around 40-50% battery with moderate use from 6 am to 5 pm now with same use it go home in the 70% range.

Stanley, download Tasker and have it turn on wifi only when your screen is on. That fixed the cell standby problem for me

I'll try that however, I do believe such a workaround should be unnecessary. Thanks!

Can't you accomplish the same thing by going into your wifi settings and setting it to wifi off when sleep?

I prefer to use Wi-fi Matic. It learns what cell sites are nearest the Wifis that you use. Then it keeps the Wifi off until you get within range of one of the nearby cell sites. By the time I get home, it has turned on my Wifi, and it turns it off again as I drive out of range of the nearby cell sites. That way it isn't on while away from Wifis you use. You can always override it to use new Wifis. But yes, should not need apps like this. Should be able to give Android a Wifi wakeup interval so it stays off and wakes up on a specified interval to see if there is a known Wifi to connect to.

I updated mine on Saturday i believe. Sunday i was pretty impressed with what i saw. Seemed to be much better than before. But Today has been a different story. Seemed to die much quicker than normal. Just looked up my stats. Cell stand by is at 50%. I dont think Ive ever seen it this high before on my phone before. SOT is on 2.5 hours. Its been off the charger for 9 and a half hours. And i have 17% left. I did use GPS today so maybe thats a factor. But after being pleasantly surprised sunday today was a totally different story. Guess Ill see how tomorrow goes.
