5 things I HATE about the Samsung Galaxy S8

Seems like the spellcheck is all wacko... I am coming from a note 4 but it seems way off on suggestions and also learning seems to be tough for it to figure out certain things. I keep having to delete "You" mid sentence because it keeps capitalizing the Y. Hmmm....

I felt the same way about the Note 4 coming from the S4. Swyping was such a pleasure on the S4 but I never really got the Note 4 trained the same way.

If you hate it, return it.

It's the same for anything else. If you're looking for negatives or positives, you will find it.
I'm not whining nor did I say I hate it. Don't be so butt hurt. I was more posting feedback here to see if there was any input or help to improve the issue.

I saw Alex bring this up in the video and I have heard them complain about this in podcast as well, unable to use FPS and Iris scanner at the same time. What do they mean? I have set up both and can use either option to unlock. For example one time I can use FPS, next time if I decide to use Iris scanner to unlock.

What am I misunderstanding?

Facial recognition and iris scanner can't be used at the same time. They mentioned it since they both have opposing flaws. One sucks in bright light, the other in dark places.

I agree with Alex. All of those things are terribly annoying, but it's still a great phone. I've grown accustomed to the FPS placement. All I do is slide my hand up until my finger reaches it.

Yeah I get that I thought they were talking about FPS and Iris scanner together. May be I misheard them.

5 things I hate:

1. Bixby. IMO just a HUGE waste of money (on Samsung's part, obviously free to us).
2. Glass back. Obviously this enables wireless charging, not sure how many people use that, but the tradeoff isn't worth it to me. Durability from metal and plastic are both better and IMO metal looks much better.
3. Ancient charging tech. QuickCharge 2.0. No. It's 2017, this needs to support USB Power Delivery. If you HAVE to keep QuickCharge, use QC 4, which does support USB PD. But you don't have to use QuickCharge, PD does fast charging just fine.
4. Edge display.
5. That there are no more than 4 things to "hate". Everything else about this phone is pretty awesome IMO. Samsung did a great job on this thing and the 4 things I did list are either things most people don't care about at all or are things that they actually like about the device.

When people bring up issues, why do they always mention the price of the phone? Okay, so it's $850... but it's not like it's any more or less acceptable than if it was a $500 phone.

The FPS on my phone is extremely fast. Usually it already unlocks when I just begin to touch the FPS. I don't touch the camera since I have a case, but I guess for those that don't rock a case, it's still easy to do so.

I think Bixby is still an unknown and way too early to consider a failure. Either way, the button has not gotten in the way for me at all so I don't even notice it. I guess I'm one of the few that don't mind the implementation of it. The Note 8 will undoubtedly have a Bixby button too I bet, and if it proves to be a great thing, at least the S8 didn't miss out.

I believe Alex has dialed it back a bit as these issues are the five worst ones instead of hating them. Let's face it. Samsung will never please everyone least of all, Alex or anyone who frequent these forums.

Yeah that is the same for any phone but that is why he went on to say he likes it -- He is just going to nit pick on what does bother him since I think we can all find stuff about any phone that bothers us.

Just a theory, but it seems to me after all the praising of the s8/s8+ was done. He had to do a video of the downside, nit pick, and dislikes just to have "fair" review.

I would disagree with the finger print sensor being in the "wrong" place. I think the location is perfectly fine considering the typical one handed user does have their index finger near that location, which makes it an ideal location for the sensor.

Bixby... Too bad we are not able to remap it completely but oh well. There will be ways around it, but I understand that Samsung is starting to push for their own products. Simply ignore it and move on. Just like (example), iPhone 7 users with the removal of headphones jack. They cried wolf, but eventually rolled over and adopted the change.

It is what it is.

I would say it's just him saying what he doesn't like. The reviews all seem to love it.. so he decided to make something that shows what he doesn't love.

I don't care if you use Samsung, a Google phone, Apple, etc... There are things everyone doesn't like. They will differ from person to person but no one is going to love every single feature and everything on a phone.

You guys need some perspective. There are 5× the people buying the S8 right now than any other Android phone. Of course there will be early issues. And it's all being posted here as it should. There are a bunch of happy users that are out enjoying their phone.

totally agree with you. Go to any forum for a new phone and you will see numerous complaints about the new phone and it won't do this or this doesn't work. It is the nature of the beast.

The Galaxy S8 line will be the best selling Android phone this year.

Good point. Also, have heard of none of those issues except red tint.

Alex is spot on and Android Central deserves credit for posting this video.

Unlocking this phone is such a mess that if I wasn't past the 2 week return period I'd seriously return it. For this price Samsung deserves to be severely punished for making the S8+ such a POS to unlock.

Wear glasses? Skip Iris.

Face unlock? Alex nailed this. Only works in good light and unlocks the phone when you don't want it to.

Fingerprint sensor is flat out unreliable requiring multiple multiple attempts. I could live with the effed up placement of the sensor if the sensor actually worked! I have a Pixel XL and a Mate 9 (and Note 4/5). Want a bulletproof fingerprint sensor? See the Mate 9. While a little slower the Pixel sensor is at least round and reliable 90% of the time.

After taxes this phone costs >$900 in my state. Oh well it's a Samsung device so it should be easy to sell.

I have to say that unlocking isn't an issue for me at all. My FPS works great when I need it. I register the same finger 2x to increase the sensitivity. When I started using the IRIS scanner I was amazed at how fast it unlocks. I wear glasses and I've don't have any problems, with or without them. I will admit that in bright sunlight it doesn't work as well but that is when I use a PIN.

The extra button for Bixby doesn't bother me. I knew before I bought the phone that it wouldn't be functional. I look at it like my Echo, it is constantly evolving.

The glass back is one of those things "be careful what you wish for". I remember when just about everyone complained about the cheap looking plastic backing. LOL

Interesting. I've never thought of registering the same finger more than once to increase sensitivity. I'll have to try that the next time I have difficulty with a FPS.

I just want to say my FP scanner seems quicker than what he was showing. Also, with a case, I don't think I've ever touched the camera lens trying to unlock the phone. Bixby, the Iris and face recognition, and the home button are pretty annoying in very minute ways. I think Bixby is the worst of them all though.

Same here. Mine is so fast that I switched from facial recognition to iris scanner to fps.

I got an LG g6 and love the fact that I can put a nice glass screen protector on it. The camera quality is way better than my s7e. I'm glad I returned the s8 plus. The pink edge was a bit annoying.
