6X not updating to Nougat...

That's too bad. I'd love to see them succeed. I like their take on Android - just a little bit different from everyone else. But they need to make a commitment to software updates in order to be taken seriously.

They did make a commitment on the 5x for two years. They didn't follow through though. Actions speak louder than words in this case.

Is that really a way to reach a wide audience? I rarely watch YouTube smartphone reviews, except for Mobile Nations (iMore and Android Central), especially Mr Mobile (Michael Fisher) and Modern Dad (Phil Nickinson) - my 11-year old son thinks they're hilarious!
Absolutely not. The people watching tech blogs already know about Huawei. The general public doesn't but sponsoring some tech bloggers aren't going to help.

Android OEMs have a real problem with updates, and that's the main reason I use an iPhone as my primary device.

No, it's not a good way. Those YouTuber has a huge followers, but not everyone watches reviews like yourself.

Surprisingly they didn't follow up. They sold over 8 millions of the 5x in a year time I think. Not sure the numbers were just too low for them.

Yes but not all androids have that problems

That's true... I mentioned in another thread that I've been impressed by T-Mobile US and how they've issued security updates for LG and Samsung flagships. But not everyone wants to buy an Android flagship. Obviously, with iPhones, even the cheapest new models are more expensive than similarly-specced Androids. But at least with the "cheaper" iPhones, you're practically guaranteed 3 years of platform updates. That's impressive!

This is what Apple do best. Keeping up with updates.

The wifes 6X never recieved nougat and the phone has refused many attempts by me to update it.

If it were my phone I would get rid of it.
I don't blame you. My honor 8 was stuck and had to fiddle a lot with ff to get it updated.

That is impressive. The only Android that guarantees that is the current pixel2/2xl.

They just cheaped out. I mean major updates can take a little effort but security patches require little effort on the oem.

I really wonder how much work it takes to do security patches. Even big android OEM don't update their lines monthly

My honor 8 updated right away also.
For me the update was a mistake.
Quit using it about a month after the nougat update.
