8 hours SOT :)

I've had this phone for 7 days. I've been giving it time before I gave my input. But I'm not getting the battery life that I've seen here. I don't have Google now, location services are on battery saver, auto brightness, Bluetooth off, NFC off, no oddball apps, I monitor my battery with gsam. I'm getting about the same battery life as my htc one m7. My screen on average is less than three hours I believe.

Ok, so SOT is 3 hours, but what is your time off charger? Cell Radios, if not on Wifi, eat away at the battery. How many email accounts are you syncing?

I took the phone off charge at 7 and it had about 3 hours screen on time around 7 that evening. I was on WiFi all day. One email syncing.

The closer your usage is to the time you unplugged, the longer your SoT will be. In other words, the smaller amount of standby time you have, the longer the SoT will be.

That's not helping..

May just be a combination of bad cell reception and longer standby time. I just remember having around the same battery when I got home on the HTC one m7. uploadfromtaptalk1434044115018.jpguploadfromtaptalk1434044127504.jpguploadfromtaptalk1434044137960.jpg
Yep, thats not helping at all.

That cell signal is going to play a factor for sure. How long were you on the phone? Can you show the battery graph from 100%? Is Wifi calling an option? (no idea if this plays into battery life in low/bad cell areas).

I don't think I can do WiFi calling. uploadfromtaptalk1434045760833.jpguploadfromtaptalk1434045769690.jpg

I've only gamed, You Tubed and the like briefly on the G4 thus far, but, as a rule, this usually kills my battery at about 12%/ph - this is just over 8hrs SoT over a full charge.

Having said that, isn't this what's expected? I mean, yes, actually having your screen on for that length of time is odd for anything other than trying it out, but My Z3 dropped by a similar amount, and I've watched stuff on my wife's iPhone 6 and it was only about 1%/ph higher. Sure, the S6 and other phones that don't have the best battery life would struggle, but there's plenty out there that could hit that mark I'm sure.

8h! (Spits tea out.) How possible?😦

To quote my own comment, which one or two others have remarked upon, I was at the time that I posted it assuming fairly normal use, which as the OP has explained, was not the case. But even without normal use, it seems to me an extremely impressive statistic. Colour me green. :)

8 hours in 8 hours is pretty doable on many devices. 8 hours over a 24 hour period is very rare, not much other than a Note 4 can come close to that - and from what I hear it's closer to 5.

Considering continuous usage actually drains your battery faster (more heat for extended periods of time), and depending on how well you have your phone's idle set up, it should be equal at worst. Standby time is most likely pretty good on the G4 as it was on the G3, but perhaps I am wrong about that.

I do not see why OP couldn't have just turned the game off, gone to bed and then started again in the morning. He would have lost maybe 1-2% while it was in deep sleep if set up properly? Then again, the numbers seem strange since GSAM is reporting an 11 minute call taken at some point during this hardcore PoKeMoN Gold session (which is, by the way, my favorite PoKeMoN game by far) and he said he played straight through for the 7 hour 45 minutes.

I know I can get 8 hours on my G3 with lowish brightness and reading nothing but manga, but most of that is staring at a still screen and flipping pages. Not a lot of CPU needed and it will most likely not go higher than the 600mhz core.

I don't see how the OP is making any exceptional claims here. He posted a very specific single use of his phone under very controlled conditions that have absolutely nothing to do with normal use. Anyone can use their phone to perform one single battery efficient task for an entire charge and claim they're getting better SOT than normal.

True they can, but folks need to remember the OP has never claimed that to be the case, and posted his normal Sot is a actually 3 to 4 hours... I'm saying this here just in case someone says he is.

I think it's also worth mentioning, since I don't think anyone else has, that because OP is using an emulator the lower half of the screen is black. That surely has an effect, yeah?

I don't think so, or not much. I believe the screen is lit by backlight and dark on the screen means light is being blocked, not that it's off.

I know yesterday, I had 5.5 hours SOT, with 14 hours usage, and at 38% battery life left (then I went to bed and put it on the charger). It is quite possible to get great battery life from this phone and its decent 3000maH battery.

Way to go me!
